intimidated by diapers ...
why are there so many different kinds of diapers? pampers, huggies, luvs, etc ... and then each brand has 5 different types too (regular pampers, swaddlers, sensitive, etc)
Which kind should i get?
Or am i over-thinking this whole thing and they're all about the same
TIA

they are just brands just like everything else.
wait til your kid is here, then try them and see what works.
we all have different body shapes and so do babies. so for some huggies are best, others pampers, others it doesn't matter. some have sensitive skin, some dont.
the different "types" are just slight tweaks to the basic design, and a lot of it is basic marketing. it's like how there is different kinds of italian dressing - one is regular, one is zesty and one is four cheese... basically the same thing with a few differences that make the price different. you might like zesty better and i might like four cheese better - but there is no wrong answer.
not accounting for design - its the same difference as someone preferring one brand of jeans or shoes over another. its the last thing you need to be worried about!!

so should i stick with the smaller packs of diapers until i find the right fit?
ps: i think it's pretty funny that you compared diapers to italian dressing

We started with pampers swaddlers because that's what they had at the hospital and I didn't know anything about them! The good thing about the large packs of pampers or huggies is that they have a wetness indicator. You'll go through 10 or so diapers a day at the beginning so you'll run through them fast even if you don't love them.
Pampers and Luvs have aloe in them and I'm allergic and noticed DD was having a reaction so I switched to huggies and I really loved them. They run a bit smaller than pampers but I deal with it lol. Some people LOVE target diapers. I had gotten a package of size 2s as a present and tried them (and used them all) but didn't love them. I do like the kirkland (costco) diapers a lot but not as we got into larger sizes.
It really is so much trial and error! I'd start with one giant box of 1s either pampers or huggies and take it from there.

This is what we started with, too. We experimented w other brands (we inherited a lot of leftover diapers from family that overbought). Each time I cheated on Swaddlers, I was sorry... but I was glad I knew which brand worked for us.
It really is a lot of trial and error.
LOL @ Flowerwife's analogy, but she's absolutely right!

Don't be overwhelmed! You'll find something that works for you and your baby. When DS was little I used the swaddlers and sensitive pampers. He leaked put of huggies every time I put them on him. Once I bought the pampers with baby dry and he got a HORRIBLE diaper rash (had to treat it with a perscription creamf or 2 rounds) i started buying target diapers, loved them and havent looked back!! The $ savings compared to pampers is great to!!
Its all about trial and error, you'll figure it out.
