washington DC hotels.
We are planning to take the girls to Washington DC during a school break this year. Looking for a hotel that isn't too expensive. Has to have an indoor pool, and be close to the metro as we won't want to drive to some of the museums. Also maybe near family friendly places to eat. We plan to hit the zoo and several museums on the mall. Would be willing to stay in VA as long as it is on the metro. We will have a car but would prefer for the museums to take the metro since parking near the smithsonian is hard.

We stayed at the Le" Enfant Plaza Hotel, although I do not remember if they have an indoor pool or not. It was very reasonable, metro station in the basement.

We stayed at the Hyatt Bethesda. It's right on top of a metro station and there's a cut little town with restaurants right near the hotel. It was pretty expensive though

You could stay in Rosslyn section of Arlington. it is right over the bridge from Georgetown and there is a Metro stop right there. I know there are a bunch of hotels but it has been so long since I lived there I have no clue which ones are there.

Re: washington DC hotels.
When we were down over the summer we stayed at the Embassy Suites Crystal City Small indoor pool. Small fridge (like a college dorm one) and microwave in the room which is nice for food allergy families. We brought airbeds for the kids and they slept in the living room.
5 minute walk to the Crystal City metro stop (blue & yellow lines) but the hotel also provides a shuttle to another nearby stop (Pentagon City?) Free shuttle into Crystal City restaurants and they'll come back to pick you up.
We did a private night tour of DC that was great, they picked us up at the hotel and was just our family in the van.
Was a quick drive to Mount Vernon which my kids LOVED.
Let me know if you want to know what we did that the kids liked and didn't like.

This is near where we stayed like 10 years ago - crystal gate marriott I think. That is probably where we will end up again. There used to be a fun place called Saris's that my family would go do in Rosslyn but I think it is gone. We used to see a lot of famous people there.

Thanks will definitely check that one out!! I forgot about Mount Vernon! Maybe will add that to our list - I was thinking of just a quick trip so the zoo, air and space and the Natural and American History museums. They are only 3 and 5 do I don't want to over load us - but thinking 2-3 days in DC not counting the day we arrive and the day we leave. So thinking activities in the morning and then swim in the afternoon. A microwave and fridge would be good - we could do breakfast in the room.

Is that the crystal gate one? My father reminded me that we stayed there in the past.
We also used to stay at a hyatt or hilton near the zoo. But it isn't there anymore it is something else now.

Key Bridge Marriott. Same neighborhood. There are several hotels in the area. And Georgetown is a great area!

I stayed at a hotel near key bridge. It was a little dark/scary walking back from the metro at night.

I lived there for years and never thought it was dark and scary.
There are plenty of scary parts of DC and Rosslyn isn't one.

I was thinking the same thing but I was only there for three nights.

We had to walk in this elevated platform with vacant stores in snow...I wasn't thrilled. It was deserted at night
