Baby registry anxiety

DH and I tried to register for the second time. The first time, a few weeks ago, was so overwhelming that we left. The second attempt was no better. We just don't know what we're supposed to register for. We covered the obvious (crib, stroller), but now we're stumped.

Anyone else feeling similarly? Would anyone mind showing me their registry, or point me in the direction of a website that can help. I am starting to twitch when I pass baby stores!

Where'd you go? I've heard that an associate will walk around with you at BBB and help you out.

Same thing happened to us, plus the store was so crowded and hot.. Chat Icon

We ended up buying Baby Bargains and registering online little by little.

Buy Buy Baby has a good checklist on its website (def more than you need) that you can use as a guide.

The book Baby Bargains really helped us. We decided to only go with items that got A ratings and that helped us narrow down the choices a lot. And don't feel like you have to get it all done in one visit to the store. We started with the bigger items and worked our way down to smaller items. We also added a lot from home online.

We went to BBB the first time. Second trip was to BRU. DH already mentioned using the baby shopper when we go back to BBB.

I went into BRU once by myself and I was overwhelmed from the moment I walked through the door. I'm registered at BBB and BRU. It's under Jessica Gallagher. Hope it helps.

Re: Baby registry anxiety

I registered for more than one kind of item at a time ..for example, if I was not sure I put down all 3 highchairs I kinda liked and later when I had time to internet research each one I could choose which high chair to leave on the registry. Its easiest to edit online, instead of in the store. In the store just click everything you think you MAY need or Like, it does not have to be definite. Just click and click in each aisle. First thing in the morning when its empty and quiet! Later online look at the list and start searching and then deleting as needed!

You can use the list the store gives you as a guide but you really do not need everything. Every one is different though so you cannot go by others too much. And things you think you definitely will need, you may actually never need them. I thought I'd totally need but I hardly used the bottle warmer and wipe warmer...but others can 't live without it.

It all falls into place and your baby only needs you and breastmilk or formula, diapers,a bottle, PJs, carseat when s/he first comes home. So you have time for high chair, toys, etc you may need to try a few different bottles to know which one works. Once baby is here, CVS is open 24 hours so if you forget anything major you'll be able to get it and anything else can wait till the next morning !

Re: Baby registry anxiety

I read Baby Bargains cover to cover a few times, printed out the BBB checklist and consulted friends and family—from there I wrote up pages and pages of notes detailing exactly what I needed to register for.

By the time I got to the store it was a breeze because the work was already done.

If I was starting cold in the store, I wouldn't even have known where to begin!

Crashing to add lucieslist. This site has great info, keeps things simple, and is entertaining too! Baby bargains and the BRU website reviews are helpful for picking specific big items but lucies list nicely summarizes what you need.

Re: Baby registry anxiety

I read baby bargains and made a huge list BEFORE going to the store. A lot of items I had narrowed down to only 1 or 2 choices that we picked from the store. For example, I read about strollers in Baby Bargains and narrowed it down to City Select, Uppa Baby, or the Britax one. That way, in store, we were just picking between the 3. This reduced the number of decisions we had to make and sped up our process.

I then made a list of all the little items - towels, pacifiers, etc. that I picked out in the store.

I did a lot of registering online and agree with PP that I scanned extra in the store and just did edits online.

Also, realize that there is no reason to agonize over every thing. Sure, the stroller is an expensive one, so spend more time on that. But for small thing like a sippy cup - just pick one and don't worry about it.

I used Baby Bargains as well....it was very helpful. If I had to do it all over again I would only register at Buy Buy Baby. They have way more knowledgable staff, better coupons and the customer service puts BRU to shame. We returned $300 worth of things from our shower and they didn't even blink.
We found it was best to register at night during the week...so many less people in the way.

Re: Baby registry anxiety

We went tonight for the first time and I am scared to see what we actully scanned... We were doing ok at first but when we got towards the pack n play, high chair, swing, bouncy chair section we lost it. I have no idea what we'll need and what is just unnecessary... We decided to make an appointment with someone (at BBB) and go back in a week or so.

The baby bargains helped us a lot but once we got going it does get to be overwhelming.

I'm having a really hard time with strollers. I thought I had it narrowed down to the Uppa Baby Vista and Britax B-Ready but there were so many other options when we got there that I just had no idea which to go with...

This is what I did. I took my mom (mother of four) and cousin (who had 3 kids in 3.5 years) with me to register. It was fun and made registering so much easier. Then I had a friend from HS, who was also an LIFer, give me her opinion.

The stroller thing happened to us, too. We decided on the UPPAbaby Cruz because it is so much lighter in weight than the Vista.

We had an okay time choosing the big stuff (stroller, pack & play, exersaucer, etc). Our problem is everything else.

Make an appt to go with a shopper. We did that at the BBB in NYC, and the experience was great. She spent about 2.5 hours with us explaining everything we need / should register for and basically built our registry for us. I highly, highly recco doing this.
