I don't think this is the article you were talking about, but here is another I found there:

Oh, nevermind, I found it now:
Circumcision Guidelines By The AAP Have Been Revised For The First Time Since 1999 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/27/new-circumcision-guidelin_n_1826069.html

New circumcision guidelines
I wish we could make a decision. We're just going to end up not making up our minds and not doing it because we couldn't fully decide TO do it. Our ped recommends it. I thought that would make the decision easier when I asked and he said that, but DH is just not sure.

Is DH circumsized? Is there are reason why you question it (religious, values,???)

Re: New circumcision guidelines
I just have to that the recommendation is weakly based on STD infections-which are avoidable by safe sex, which I'm sure ALL of us willtell our sons to perform.

Re: New circumcision guidelines
this is NOT the best reason but I did it because I didn't want my son ever to have to face embarassment as a pre-teen/teen/adult.
I know this is not the best reason (honestly, it never really entered my mind NOT to circ) but looking for reasons in my mind, that was the best i could come up with.
everyone in both sides of our family is circ'd. he will NOT remember the moments of discomfort.

He is, but had a complication with it as a young child and I think he remembers that (he had to have surgery as a child because it wasn't done properly at birth). It's totally not about religion, values, aesthetics, or anything. He just doesn't really see why to do it when most of the world doesn't. I think the US is super civilized and find it "clean" but it's all a perception thing for me. So I don't know if my reasons to want to are valid enough for me to push it. I guess because they come out uncut, he just wants to leave it status quo. I don't want to miss an opportunity to improve his life by not cutting because I feel like it could. I just don't know!
Our ped has offered to sit down and talk to us more about it if we want (he's very pro) so maybe we'll make an appointment or place a call and do that again before DS is born. If it's up to me in the hospital, I'm going to tell them to just call the ped and have it done and not look back. But since we're a team, I want DH to be ok with that and us to make the decision together.

New circumcision guidelines
I watched a couple of documentaries on the subject. The tools used and the procedure were very hard to watch. I just can't do now.

Well that's a good enough reason. It has to be hard on dh since he did have a problem. You as a couple are going to decide what is best.

Re: New circumcision guidelines
I just felt that the "they won't remember it" excuse wasn't a good enough reason to have a painful mostly cosmetic procedure done to my newborn son. I also did a lot of research into the actual medical procedure itself and wasn't comfortable with it. It is a very personal decision and everyone needs to do their own research :) I will tell you my decision angered a lot of my family due to established religious customs.

Re: New circumcision guidelines
I find the fact that it "infant death was so infrequent" that it wasn't put in insane! Look i'm all for reading a study and being educated but by not including that some of those newborn boys DIED is wrong and will NOT help you make an educated decision. Do what you want, but still understand it can happen, and don't sugar coat it. I don't care if even 1 baby died, it should have been published. If say 1000 babies were in the study and even 1% died that is 10 babies. That's enough IMHO, Hell even 1 is enough to write about.
I also agree with a pp......safe sex should be practiced if you're intact or not by BOTH parties.
