Spin off to Grandparents car seat

just wondering-would you expect your parents to pay or would you buy one for them?

My Dad used to have an old car seat from my niece (about 4 years old!) He mentioned taking it out of the garage to use for my LO. I don't want my baby in that old seat that has been sitting outside and posssibly have weather damage. They bought it on their own when my niece was born. If i share my concerns; should I expect them to just replace it on their own? Or should I go buy one for them to use since it's my own issue w/them using the old one?

I suggested to my Mom that they take the old seat to toy r' us for the trade in event and get a new one. Just wondering if I should pay for it; or have them get it since they went out and bought one for my niece when she was born so part of me feels like they should do the same for mine (no flame LOL).

Re: Spin off to Grandparents car seat

i was going to just buy them an extra base for the car seat i have because i figured the baby would be picked up from my house or dropped off by me and my car seat would always be near & accessible .. but my sisters daughter is about to grow out of her current car seat & she already had 2 bases for it so my parents are just going to use that .. we will prob get a base for my IL's

Re: Spin off to Grandparents car seat

I wouldn't be comfortable using that seat either. I planned to buy my DD a seat for my mom's car; I didn't want them to have to lay out the money. I was given one by a friend instead. It wasn't expired and I knew it hadn't been in any accidents.

I would say to take the old seat to the trade in event and you'll go with them to help pick a new one and pay....and see what they say. I wouldn't use the seat that is 4 years old. If they offer to pay for the new one after the trade then fine, if not I would just pay.

I'd buy them one, but knowing them they'd probably pay. I wouldn't expect them too though

i would buy it for them. I look at it as, if they are driving the baby around I am somehow benefiting (whether they are babysitting so i can have the night out or they picked the baby up from daycare bc i had to work late) either way they are doing us the favor so spending a little money on the carseat cant hurt

Re: Spin off to Grandparents car seat

We bought the extra base for the infant seat. For DS #1, my mom bought the carseat, I am assuming she will do the same this time around.

Have them get a convbertible instead. You can use it from 5 lbs and they're good 5 or 6 yrs so you'll definitely get your money's worth. The myride 65 goes doen to $100 (from $135-155) 2x a year at Target so keep an eye out. They definitely shouldn't need another infant seat - just a base or even just strap it in as-is, easy enough.

I would buy it for them or let them use the 4 year old seat (assuming it's not expired or recalled).

Re: Spin off to Grandparents car seat

I would ask her if you can take the seat and trade it in, and then use the discount to buy them a new seat.

From Friday, August 24 through Sunday, September 16, Babies"R"Us and Toys"R"Us stores nationwide are holding the "Great Trade-In" event, providing our customers the opportunity to trade-in any used car seats, bassinets, strollers, travel systems, play yards, high chairs, walkers, swings, activity jumpers, bouncers or entertainers in exchange for 25% off the purchase of any new baby item, in any of these product categories, from select manufacturers.

The "Great Trade-In" event places an emphasis on specific baby products, such as car seats that, due to safety concerns, may not be the best candidates to be handed down or resold. Beyond recalls, certain older and used baby items can be potentially unsafe for a variety of reasons.

Visit your local Babies"R"Us or Toys"R"Us store to trade-in your used car seat, stroller or other qualifying baby product. Day care centers or other organizations that wish to exchange items in bulk are encouraged to contact their local Babies"R"Us or Toys"R"Us store prior to returning their used items to ensure adequate availability of new merchandise.

What is the Great Trade-In event?
The Great Trade-In event is a national program offered by Babies"R"Us and Toys"R"Us that provides our guests the opportunity to trade-in any used car seats, bassinets, strollers, travel systems, play yards, high chairs, walkers, swings, activity jumpers, bouncers or entertainers in exchange for savings on any new item from one of these product categories from participating manufacturers.

The program serves to call attention to used baby items still in circulation that may have been recalled and other concerns raised by older or used products. This could include products that have been damaged or others where advances in product safety have rendered older models non-compliant with the latest standards.

Does the item I bring back have to be a product I purchased from one of your stores? Do I need a receipt to trade-in an item?
You can trade-in any car seat, bassinet, stroller, travel system, play yard, high chair, walker, swing, bouncer, entertainer or activity jumpers at any of our Toys"R"Us or Babies"R"Us stores nationwide, regardless of whether you purchased the item from one of our stores. You do not need a receipt to trade-in a used item.

Can I bring back multiple items and receive additional savings?
Yes, you can bring back multiple items to our stores during the program and you will receive one 25% discount for each item traded in. However, guests may only use one savings coupon per each new item purchased. The new item must be in the participating product categories and from the participating manufacturers - Baby Trend, Chicco, Evenflo, Graco, S1 By Safety 1st.

Event period 8/24-9/16/12. Excludes Unbeatable Price items. In-store purchase only. 25% discount valid on day of trade-in only with coupon. Coupon provided in store on day of trade-in. One coupon per trade-in. Cannot be combined with any other offer for same item(s) or on prior purchases.

Re: Spin off to Grandparents car seat

I think it would be good to offer to buy one.......

If it were my inlaws, they'd be so happy getting to drive the kid they'd just end up buying it themselves.

my parents on the other hand were cheap, and when they drove my niece/nephew would pick up the car seat from the curb or garbage dump, and I doubt they looked at expiration date either(in addition to not knowingif it were in an accident)
