If you have a dog...
How are you preparing him or her for your LO's arrival? I know DH has to bring the hospital blankets home. I saved an article from months ago that recommended playing a recording of an infant crying. What else are you doing?

Other than bringing blankets home I really havent put too much thought into it yet. The baby crying is a good idea too. I might have to ask my other Boxer moms what they did!

Re: If you have a dog...
We just brought home a blanket after DD was born, we also always left the nursery room door open before she was born. So our pup could smell the furniture etc. We set up the swing and bouncer about a week before I was due so she could get used to that too. Coming home from the hospital DH held the infant seat and I went in and said hi to her. She smelled me and did her normal thing and then we let her sniff DD's feet. It took her about 2 days to realize that DD was staying. They are totally best buds now. It really was not as bad as I imagined. I was pretty nervous about it.

I'm going to have DH bring a blanket or clothes home and let him smell it.
We already opened up the nursery and have our dog go in their so he knows.
When the baby comes home we are going to let him sniff the baby.
I also plan on making sure to give him just as much attention as before so he isn't jealous of the baby.

Re: If you have a dog...
We put together the stroller and wheel it around sometimes to get them (we have two) usesd to it. My older one is fine, she doestn care. The younger one is very skittish, barks at anything unfamiliar. So we give her treats when she goes near it but doesnt bark. Shes totally fine with it now.
We set up the swing and turned it on, same thing, shes now used to it. My husband also pulls up babies crying on youtube and lets it play for like 10 minutes each day. At first she hated it but shes getting adjusted.
Just takes time but they'll take their cues from you, if we stay calm, she stays calm.

If you have a dog...
I figured DH would bring a blanket home or something with the babies scent to introduce the dogs to the baby. I also plan on getting a Doll that I can practice teaching them to keep their distance from and to get them used to seeing me with a baby in my arms.
ETA: I like the idea of the recordings of baby crying...I might try that too!

Re: If you have a dog...
We let our dog sniff all of the new baby stuff and she's super curious about what's happening in the baby's room.
I'm wondering how we're going to help her decipher between doggie toys (which are everywhere) and baby toys (which will soon be everywhere).

We will do the whole hospital blanket thing and everything that has come into the house so far we have shown him and let him sniff. He hung out with us in the nursery the entire time we were painting and setting it up and now I catch him napping in there. He is my first baby so I'm doing everything I can to make it as easy a transition as possible for him. He is super attached to DH and I so we are going to try and give him as much attention as possible b/c when we don't he gets a little spiteful.

All I did was bring home a blanket from the hospital. Our dog is super laid back anyway.
He now hangs out in the babies room and if we can't find him around the house we know that is where he is. They are buddies. DS pulls Rockys ears and Rocky doesn even react.
I think it is more about the dogs temperment than anything.

Yes! Lol my dog already thinks the toys on the top shelf of her hutch is his and the spout cover for the tub. He actually whines for it.

This is what I'm worried about!! My dog thinks EVERY stuffed animal in the house elongs to him!

Re: If you have a dog...
The only advice I can give is make sure when you come home with the baby is you go right over to the dog and give him love and attention then slowly show him the baby!! I also bought new toys for our dog so he didn't feel left out! Call me crazy but he was our first baby Make them feel apart of what is going on. my dog and daughter have so much fun together and I'm so happy for that!!

I plan on having DH bring blankets home for the baby to smell... A few weeks ago I youtubed the sound of a baby crying and played it. Darwin looked annoyed and Huxley ran over to the computer and started whimpering!!!

same with ours! She just sits in the nursery alone whining for the stuffed animals. im going to do the blanket home from the hospital thing and other than that, cross my fingers ive been setting up the nursery and we set up the swing, bouncer etc so they can get used to new things around the house.
