What did you do for your dc's 1st Bday ON the actual day?
My son's 1st Bday is Friday and the big bash is Saturday. What can I do with my son to make it special for him on the actual day? I'll be running around doing party prep most of the day and my husband gets home around 5:30p. His bedtime is 7ish. Can you recommend any thing we can do or any place special that a 1 year old would appreciate and recognize as "different" from other days?

What did you do for your dc's 1st Bday ON the actual day?
I can't say that we did anything that would be recognized as different but we took our DD to the Children's Museum on her actual bday. Is there a place that he really loves? Carousel, park, etc.

What did you do for your dc's 1st Bday ON the actual day?
DH took a vacation day (which he basically never does!) for DD's 1st Bday and we took her to the Riverhead Aquarium for the first time. It was a fun day but of course she wasn't really old enough to "get" it. We didn't have her party for a few days afterwards, so I wasn't really in party stress mode.

Since swimming and eating sand are his two favorite things to do, we are taking him to the beach. However, we will be limiting the sand intake so he has room for cake and ice cream later.

DD's birthday fell on a saturday, but her big party was the following week. We took her to White Post Farm. She was walking well by then and had a blast. We had our immediate fam over for cake that evening.

we have started a tradition to take them out to breakfast and to bulid a bear every year on their birthday.

My DS' 1st birthday landed on "Black Friday" which unfortunately meant that it was pretty much impossible for my DH to take the day off because those who are above him all took off being it was the day after Thanksgiving.
We had his Godparents, grandparents, & a couple of his 1st cousins over that night for cake. His Birthday party was that Sunday.

My dd is also born aug 17th. She is turning 2 this year. Last year for her first bday we took her to white post farms. We had a great time. After that we had dinner and cake at home with family.

We usually go out to breakfast or lunch and take her to the petting zoo and park.

Bronx Zoo and then Friendly's for lunch and we let them eat ice cream for the 1st time.

We both took days off and get breakfast and have balloons in the house for DD and take her out and have our parents over for dinner and cake.

Just a small cake for the 3 of us. We had his big birthday for family and friends the weekend before so on the actual day we just did a little cake and gave him a few small gifts to open.

We are going to celebrate his Bday on the actual day since it is a friday and it is 3 days after Christmas.
But we are not having a big party at all. We are just having the grandparents over for cake.

Her birthday fell on a weekend anyway. So her bday was the bday we planned - a trip to the Zoo  
We didn't have a party.

DD 1st birthday fell on a fri and her big bash was that sat...
we took her to white post farms...she LOVED it!!! it was pretty hot that day but she petted some animals and rode the pony and train...she had never been there before and loved seeing all the animals!

We took our 1 year old to the bronx zoo on her birthday. She actually got more out of it than I though she would.
