Question about Doctor giving glucose results? Update #2

Hi Everyone,

I just called my doctors office for my one hour glucose results. I spoke to the nurse who said the results are in but she cant tell me and the doctor will have to tell me. Do you think that automatically means I failed?

UPDATE: I failed My number was 179. I have to go for the 3 hour on Saturday morning. Anyone have a number that high that passed the 3 hour? Do I have any hope?

UPDATE #2: I failed.. he didnt tell me my numbers but said I need to go see Dr. El Kady this week for some GD education. He said not to change my diet yet until I learn how to eat. Im so nervous..

No. All test results, positive or negative, must be signed-off by the doctor before released.

I think it depends on your doctor's office. I've been able to get good results from the secretary at my OB, so the doctor/nurse needing to talk to me would most likely mean I failed. But at my regular doctor, I would need to actually have an appointment with him to get any kind of test result.

Nope, same thing happened to me and I passed. And I called the office multiple times to check....ice cream has been very important to me throughout this pregnancy and I needed to know ASAP. lol

Same thing happened to me and i passed. The dr had to sign off on it first. in my experience if the results are bad, the nurses bring it to the drs attention immedietly and they review and sign off so they can tell you. When the results are within normal range, they just wait for the dr to get around to signing off on them.

I think my first GT # was like 190 and I failed the 3 hour but I think your number is just close to the limit which is 18o? so maybe your MD is just being cautious. Make sure you watch what you eat these days before your three hour. I didnt and I think thats why I failed.

I was 176 when I did the 1hr GD test but I passed the 3hr.

Sorry about the update Good luck with the 3 hour! I know several people who had numbers like that who passed. The fasting test is much more accurate. Hope it all goes well!

The 1-hour screening cut-off is 130 or 140, not 180. They always shy on the side of having you take the 3-hour, though, even if you're really close to the cutoff.

Thanks for the encouragement and info ladies!! I'm here now, I was able to get out of work this morning so I could just get this stupid thing over with!! I'll update in a few days when I have the results! Ya think I'll have them by tomorrow by any chance?

Just finished, wasnt bad at all. They said doc shouldnt have the results until Monday.

with my son I failed with 167 but then passed the 3 hr......

with this one I failed with 190 then failed 3hr

Having GD isn't the end of the world, I've had it for 3 out of 4 pregnancies, its just a different way of eating and once you get the hand of it, it will be better! If you need anything FM me or come check out the boards there are alot of people on here with GD and we all help each other out!

I SO want to tell you not to be nervous, but I know that’s easier said than done.
I was BUMMED when I found out I had GD. Just follow the diet they give you and you will be fine!!
The only thing that sucked a little was taking my blood sugar 4x a day, but you get used to that too.
The girls on here are all so supportive and made me feel a ton better. Hope we can do the same for you.

Thanks girls!!! Do you think I will just try to treat it first with diet?? I guess if it was so bad and I needed insulin right away, the doc would have told me that? All he said was that El Kady's office would call me to make an appointment to get "educated".
