Question about Clomid

Who prescribed it? Your Gyno or RE?
I have heard that GYNO's will mine would not so he sent us to an RE. Which we do not have coverage for. The thing that gets me is that all that al the RE is doing for us is monitoring and clomid.
I have heard GYNO's doing it. I am 34, diagnosed with PCOS at 33. Not a severe case. DH has a low morphology everything else fine but RE said it is nothing that should cause a problem.

IDK it just got me thinking so I figured I would ask.

Edit to add: I also take 1500 mg Metformin a day.

Re: Question about Clomid

Both prescribed it but I never felt like I got monitored correctly by my ob and wished I had gone to a RE sooner. Good luck.

Question about Clomid

My regular ob/gyn prescribed it for me with both pregnancies... I know its better when an RE prescribes it to monitor it better, but I didn't have any other issues besides PCOS so it worked with 50 mg ...

Re: Question about Clomid

my RE prescribed it, but my OB could have. I definitely think that anyone who takes it, should be monitored by an RE.

You need to know if you're responding to it and without being monitored, you won't know. So how will you know if the dosage needs to be upped? How will you know if your lining looks good (for some, clomid thins it out)?

my advice is to go to the RE. Chat Icon

Question about Clomid

Ob/gyn RXed it but didnt do any monitoring. i went right to an RE before even doing the cycle.
its much MUCH much better to do it through an RE. the monitoring is very important.

Question about Clomid

my gyn prescribed it and I regret taking it without being monitored... if you are going to take any IF drugs you should be monitored by an RE..its in your best interest

Question about Clomid

A few years back when I started everything, I did two Clomid cycles with my obgyn. He was great about monitoring me and had me come in every day or every other day for a sono and bloodwork. It was just like going to the RE. But both times, Clomid did nothing for me, and so he referred me to an RE.

Re: Question about Clomid

We have been to the RE and are going to start the monitoring. I appreciate the input. As mentioned we do not have insurance for the RE so if this GYNO could do the same it would be better BUT from what everyone has said we will definately stay with the RE.

This exactly. Clomid can think your lining out the longer you stay on it. So you may stay at a dosage that does nothing for you that could actually be doing your harm. continue with your RE, its your best bet

ITA. My OB/Gyn would have prescribed it and "monitored" me but having been through monitoring with an RE I know that monitoring is so much more than any OB would do.

Clomid is a serious drug with serious side effects. I'd only take it if I were under the care of an RE. Also, if clomid doesn't work for you, an RE has many other avenues to try that an OB wouldn't.
