If you pump in hospital how do you wash it?
My first pregnancy my pump arrived after I was already home. This time I am bringing it to the hospital although I dont think I really want to BF because it really stressed me out and hurt! If I try to pump in the hospital how do I wash the tubing and parts? I think I used to wash it every time I pumped. Does the nurse do it? Or will they give me soap? I am having a c section so I probably wont be able to get up and wash it for 1-2 days.

I pumped at the hospital and I washed the parts after every feeding. Not the tubing! I used the hand soap, it's what the LC told me to do.. When DH was there he washed it. Otherwise, I did.

I was just trying to remember this exact same thing. How did I wash the parts in the hospital? I can't remember. But something makes me think back to soap and water, plus special breast pump wipes. They must've been medela wipes. I wonder if they still have those.
But you don't wash the tubes.

They brought me a pump in the hospital to try to help and encourage my milk to come in because we were having weight issues from the very beginning but nothing ever actually came out into it despite hours a day hooked up to the dang thing so I never had to wash it.
Those medela wipes are great -- why don't you just get those to use to wipe the shields? Otherwise a little rinsing in the sink by whomever is there to visit you should be enough, especially if you're planning to use it around the clock anyway.

Re: If you pump in hospital how do you wash it?
I delivered my first at Winthrop and there was a pump in my room. You may check with your hospital.
On another note, (and totally unsolicited advice) if you aren't sure you want to breastfeed than I'd probably skip pumping in the hospital; unless you think you may want to pump in place of breastfeeding for a certain amount of time. If breastfeeding is your ultimate goal than I'd just concentrate on that. Adding the pressure (and time to pump and clean the parts) while you are also trying to breast feed and recovering from a c-section is alot!

I would check with your hospital but I think most will provide you with a pump and the parts so you don't have to bring your own. For the first day or so after my csection people were cleaning them for me whether it was the nurses or DH. Then once I was up and walking I just did it myself.

I pumped in the hospital because DD was in the NICU and they were giving her bottles of formula in the very beginning due to low blood sugar (I had well controlled GD but she still wound up in the NICU). I had to wash the pump parts in the bathroom sink with the hand soap from the dispenser. I wasn't thrilled with it but it worked. The hospital provided a pump for me to use while I was there.

At Winthrop they gave me a hospital pump to use... They gave me a yellow bin to wash the parts in, and store it.... they also gave me a mini size baby liquid soap to wash the parts.

YUP! Me too. I also asked for an extra set of the parts so while one set was drying I could use the other set.
