Hospital attire

I know it's been discussed but what are you wearing and where did you get your clothes from for when you're in the hostpital?
Im sure I want to attempt nursing in the hostpital so I need to be sure I wear somthing that gives easy access.

Ive always been a sweatpants/pj pants and t shirt kinda girl... I think the last time I wore a nightgown I was 6 years old.

Also, should the clothes be maternity-the same size Im wearing now?

Hospital attire

I brought 2 maternity gowns with me. I didn't wear them.lol I ended up using the hospital gowns. They have easy access for nursing. I also bought undies with me but didn't wear them either. I used the mesh panties from the hospital. I was very comfy in both. When I had visitors I just stayed in bed.

Wore the hospital gowns the whole time. They were actually really nice and comfy. I wore the disposable panties they gave me there, too. They gave me gowns to change into after I showered. The first day and a half, I was actually wearing a giant blue and white chuck pad in my underwear with two maxi pads and an ice diaper (which is literally a diaper filled with ice) in there too. No way any of my clothes were going to fit all that lol.

I wore nursing PJs (sweats and a top) home from the hospital. They were maternity/nursing wear from MM. Definitely maternity clothing or clothing that fits at 7+ months pregnant. You're usually pretty swollen still, if not more swollen, right after birth depending on how it goes.

Re: Hospital attire

All three hospital stays I wore the hospital gown the first night after the sections and then changed over into old navy pjs I bought for each stay. That's been my ritual- I buy a couple of pairs of pajama pants and shirts/tanks....usually just buy them in XL or L so they're loose around my incision.

Pj pants and a nursing tank.

Ditto. I'd also like to mention getting oversized granny panties to those having vbirths. You will need the extra room for the chucks, maxi pads, and ice pack that is needed all at once Chat Icon

this. I remember one of the nurses saw me going through my clothes I had brought w me and she said to me "oh honey, I think you are better off wearing hospital gowns, there is going to be so much blood and this and that, you don't want to get your stuff dirty and stained" it was the best edvice since I ended up changing a hospital gown couple of times a day first 2 days...
So this time around I'm just taking going home outfit for myself and the baby and that's it, won't bother with anything else when it comes to clothes.

Re: Hospital attire

For each of my kids i bough a bag of cheap dark colored cotton bloomers for underwear. As soon as i was able to get up and shower after each kid, i did and put on dark comfortable sweats or Pajama pants & a nursing tank. I showered each day and wore something similar. The pants were maternity as much as i wanted to give birth and be small an hour later, it didnt happen. I also brough some of my own pads the 2nd & 3rd time, The hospital ones dont have wings and they slide, can get messy.

I've posted this on here before but I just want to tell people planning on wearing the "hospital underwear" to make sure your hospital actually carries these. I planned on wearing them (along with the hospital gown) and when I asked the aid for the 'disposable underwear' she was like "What are you talking about? We don't have underwear here, didn't you bring your own clothes?". Then she had to go "Hunt me down" a hospital gown. Apparently at least where I delivered EVERYONE just uses their own underwear and clothes. Check with your hospital or at least bring back-ups.

The first day after I gave birth I wore the hospital gown and the next day when I had visitors I changed into my pjs and robe. This time around I want to change into pj bottoms/sweats and a nursing tank.

Re: Hospital attire

The first time, I basically wore the hospital gown the entire time. The second time, I actually changed into regular clothes and I felt so much better. I wore nursing tank tops, a t-shirt over it and yoga pants or sweats. I wore maternity bottoms. My stomach went down a lot, but I still had a lot of swelling from the IV and the pregnancy. It was more comfortable to wear loose fitting clothing.

I also brought high waisted underwear. Both times, I got a horrible rash from the different types of mesh underwear that the hospital provided.

Chat Icon What hospital is this? I never heard of a hospital that doesn't carry gowns. What if you get brought into the ER? Are you expected to ask the ambulance to swing by your house to pick up pjs?
