Zofran
How many of you took Zofran for morning sickness and nausea? My morning sickness has been really bad, to the point there are days I am throwing up 24/7 and can't get off the couch. So at our visit today she prescribed Zofran for me and told me I can just take it when I need it, or up to 3 times a day. I don't want to get into the habit, but om those really bad days or when I go back to school I may have to. I was sick when I got home and took one and believe it or not, I don't feel nauesous. For those that did take it or are taking it, what were your expereinces? Did it last a long time? Did it help?

Zofran
I am 13 weeks and have been on Zofran since week 6. It really has helped me a ton!!! I would not have made it through without it. There are days I take it twice a day....and others only once. 1 day I went all day without any...but then today I tried and threw up my lunch. If you need it take it! It is safe otherwise the doc wouldn't be giving it to you. I was in that mind frame of trying not to take it...but it was more important to feel well and not throwing up all of my meals and fluids.
I hope you feel better!

Zofran
I never took anything my first pregnancy even though I threw up for 5 weeks straight (9.5-14 w), it wasn't like I couldn't function and I found after I threw up every morning, I was ok.
This pregnancy, I started throwing up at 5.5 weeks and it was all day, every day, and I couldn't function. I also had a daughter to chase around (she was 13 m when I found out I was pregnant again... she's 19 m now). I needed to be able to function. It got to the point where she was following me into the bathroom and patting me on the back while I threw up.
I got zofran prescribed at my first appointment at 7.5 weeks and a pharmacist friend said if I wanted, I could cut the pills in half. So I did that. If I woke up to use that bathroom around 4 or 5 am and felt sick, I'd take half a pill. Within 20 minutes, I felt ok. In fact, it made me able to function! Since I was just taking half a pill, I could take it every 4 hours instead of every 8 hours, but it was actually very rare that I had to take more than half a pill in a day.
My nausea finally started to go away around 20 weeks, and by 21 weeks, I was totally off the zofran. Yes there were days I didn't take it and I'd be very, very sick. I kept telling myself I'd try not to and see what happened, but I'd just get sick again.
Apparently, it's perfectly safe. It blocks whatever causes you to feel nauseous and is often prescribed to chemo patients. It really did work for me and made me able to function the first half of my pregnancy.
Being able to keep nutrition down and stomach meals is really important as well as keeping your strength up while you're growing a baby!
My one suggestion is to get OTC mirilax to take at least every other day while you're taking the zofran. It can be incredibly constipating and mirilax isn't a laxative (despite the name) but just draws extra water into the colon to make things softer so it's easier to go. The last thing you need is to go from sick from throwing up to sick from not being able to use the bathroom. You can also take colase but my OB said mirilax to me on more than one occasion this pregnancy and I feel like you don't need nearly as much mirilax for it to help whereas colase you're just popping constantly.

Re: Zofran
I took it regularly with DS. With pg my doc prescribed it for me because I was throwing up 3 X a day. I am 13 weeks and still throwing up but I have not taken it...I am just trying to fight through it I know that its perfectly safe but I felt this time that I could get through it even though I am nauseous 24/7.
ETA: def take it if you need too! It's so hard to function when so nauseous

Re: Zofran
Thanks ladies!! I started taking it yesterday and coincidence or not, but I felt great all day. I told DH I don't want to get into a habit of taking it, but on days that I know we have plans or important thinhgs going on, I want to be sure I feel well. Once I hit the 12 week mark, I am hoping the morning sickness will subside anyway, but I feel better knowing I have something just inn case especially for when I go back to work. I know my doctor would never give me something that could harm the baby. And like some of you said, it makes me feel better knowing I am actually keeping food in my system now.

Re: Zofran
I take it just in the AM because I was really having difficulty getting my head out of the toilette bowl, lol. Just taking it once a day helped me, because then I was able to eat, and as long as I snack every couple of hours, I can keep the nausea at bay. When I go a few hours with no food, I am right back in the bowl though
