Toys for a 2yr old that are great for independent play? Mommy needs a break...
Putting together a list of potential Bday gifts for DD.
She only has a few toys right now that she will sit down and play by herself for awhile.. the rest she wants me to play with because she either doesn't get it or it's not entertaining enough alone.
Would LOVE more independent play out of her!
What does your 2 year old LOVE to play for hours on end by themselves?

DS has a huge Thomas wooden train set that we were given. Then my mom went out and bought someones entire collection for $100 off of craigslist lol. I bought a PBK train table on craigslist for $60 and currently they are all up in his room while we are waiting for the playroom to be finished and he plays with this train set for hours on end. Before we got this he refused to play by himself. DH puts the tracks together for him and changes it up every once in awhile so he doesn't get bored with the same track layout. He also likes lining up the engines and driving them around on the floor.

puzzles (depending on the level of difficulty)
legos/mega blocks
Those were things that my DD (who turned 3 end of May) played with when she was 2 that I didn't need to do with her.

Definitely a kitchen. DD stays occupied for a really long time "feeding" her stuffed animals.
My DD also likes to sit in her comfy Elmo chair and "read" books. So maybe take her to B&N or the library and let her pick out some books.

thomas the train
Leappad - dh got it at 2 1/2 and loves it...... the download giftcards you can go online and add nick jr videos on there and some games are easier for the little ones.

ahh thanks so much for asking this DD turns 2 in november and i want to have a list to give ppl for her bday and x-mas ready :)
As of now the only toys dd will play with independently are books/coloring & baby dolls.

play kitchen with wooden food and a shopping cart. also got her a kidkraft "blender" to go with it and she LOVES it.
We have a dollhouse teed up for Christmas, and I think that will also keep her occupied for hours.
