Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but I need to ask...

So my sisters an OB/GYN (I don't want to ask her in fear she'll eventually stop asking questions when the pregnancy hopefully comes). She told me if I stopped my pill pack in the middle of taking it, my body will ovulate and there is a "risk" of getting pregnant (she didn't know that that was ok). DH and I spoke about it and decided to wait until the pill pack ended. Tonight is my last night taking it. Last night he said to me "let's make a baby!" I almost started crying (I was so excited and also thinking "you couldn't have said this 2 weeks ago"!

Anyway, my question is (and really only because I am impatient), if I don't take that last pill tonight, does anyone know if that "risk" is still in affect? I don't know why I can't just wait the week but I'm antsy. I guess because I've wanted this for so long and DH finally got there. I can't just wait until next week when I would get my and then start after that.

So does anyone know? TIA!

If you stop taking the pill (or miss 2 or more consecutive days) prior to the halfway point your body *could* ovulate putting you at risk for pregnancy. Since you only have one pill left to take out of the entire pack, you would just get your period as normal (maybe a day early) but there wouldn't be that same risk as if you were to have stopped earlier. Sorry!!

In a typical 28 day cycle (which not to many woman have but it just make it easier to explain this) you start your period on day 1, you ovulate around day 14, your last day of your cycle is day 28 and you start again with your period on day 1. If you passed the half way day in your cycle while taking the pill and then stopped you're at less risk to ovulate naturally that cycle.

Sorry, missing your last pill will not really do anything. It's not like you would ovulate the next day because you didn't take it....you are too far along in your cycle. You also might not have ovulated if you had started the pack anyway. Enjoy this part, it's exciting but it doesn't happen overnight. Relax and just move forward from here.
