Experienced Mommies: Carseat Question
How fast did your dc outgrow the infant carrier/Carseat? I see britax makes a convertible car seat that goes from newborn to 70lbs. Just wondering if I should bypass the infant seat or of it's an absolute must

The carrier makes it easier for you. That way, when DC is sound asleep, you can just unhook the seat, and carry them inside without waking them up. You can also get them buckled up inside the house where it's a comfortable temp, then just snap it in the base in the car if it's really hot or really cold outside.
It's not mandatory, just more convenient.

Experienced Mommies: Carseat Question
Infant seats are great for convenience, especially when they have less neck control. If they are sleeping its so much easier to move them too. Most convertible seats go fom 5 pounds and up so safety wise they are good. My DS's infant bucket only went up to 22 pounds so he was out of it by 5 months of so. For the last month or so I left the bucket in the car mostly and just put him in and out because it was to heavy to carry in and out all the time.

Exactly this. My first son stayed in the infant seat until 18 months. My second son is 7.5 months and still in it. You can't beat the convenience!

My infant car seat only goes up to 30inches and my son is 26 at 7 months, 6 months adjusted. Im thinking by the time he is 9 months he will be in the convertible car seat. I agree with everyone, the carrier is so much easier when they are first born and little.

I second this! The snap and go is not necessary, but makes it easy when your LO is sleeping. You don't have to transfer them from a carseat to a stroller each time. You just take the snap and go car seat out and put it on the stroller. Much easier. We didn't convert to the bigger carseat until closer to 10 months only because the snap and go was way too heavy for us to carry around.

Re: Experienced Mommies: Carseat Question
My DD was born in November and having the infant carrier carseat was a God-send. We used a bundle me with the car seat and it was part of a travel system so it was easy to get her in and out of the car and in and out of the stroller. I can't imagine how difficult it would have been to bundle her up enough, carry the diaper bag and carry her out to the car each time. We also kept her in it whenever we went into a restaurant and put in the high chair (upside down) or sling, whatever was on offer. Thinking back I really don't know how we would have managed if we didn't have the infant carseat.
She's now 8.5 months and we just switched over to the rear-facing convertible carseats in both cars this weekend even though she's still only weighs 14.5 lbs because the infant carrier was getting awkward and she's sitting up in high chairs when we go out.

We switched at 9 months. He was fine with weight, but 29 1/2 inches long and our ped said to switch him. Plus I could barely lift the carrier with him in it, LOL.

Experienced Mommies: Carseat Question
Infant carrier style carseat is a convenience. You can use a convertible seat from birth so long as the infant fits properly in it (most seats now come with padded inserts to help with this)
That said, I used a carrier with both girls. It was far easier when they were teensy. I also bought one with a taller shell/weight limit (Graco Safeseat, now called the Snugride 35 and then later a Chicco Keyfit) and used it to those limits. I simply stopped taking it in/out of the car.

Experienced Mommies: Carseat Question
I guess I am the only one that feels like the infant seat was a huge waste of money. Yes, DS is 10 months old (7 months adjusted) and I still use it, but I could have lived without it. With him in the seat, it is way to heavy for me to carry, so I hardly ever take the seat out of the car. It barely fits in my car and it is just all around awkward. I did not want the infant seat, but everyone told me that I would not be happy if I did not have one. I should have stuck with my intuition on this one and skipped it.

Experienced Mommies: Carseat Question
I was thinking about going straight to a convertible and not get an infant seat but after talking to people I decided on the small snugride. The convertibles start at about 5 lbs but your newborn will swim in the seat. I just felt like a newborn was not protected as much as a seat that is made for their small size.
Because I got the smaller snugride he is 6 mons and grew out of it cause of the height....he is LONG!!! But even for the 6 months it was worth buying. The safety and ease when he was a few months old was worth every penny.
