Getting an estimate for an inground pool....I need help...

I have Tony from Pro Contracting coming this weekend to give me an estimate for an inground pool.

However...I have NO idea what questions to ask.

If you shopped around for inground pools, what questions did you ask?

So far I have:

* Permit questions (wiring that may need to be buried; lot allowances for pool size; gate/ pool alarm/ security measures)

* Salt or Chlorine filter questions...pros/ cons

* How long do we have to wait for the pool to "settle" before we can put pavers?

* Size/ shape of pool?

* Liner options

Do you have any recommendations of what I should ask? Thanks so much for any help! Chat Icon

Construction-concrete? Composite? Metal? Very few companies do a full concrete inground anymore. Shore Shore, Swim King & Arthur Edwards do.

-Start date of construction?
-approximately how long ?
-warranty on the pool/equipment ? what is required to keep the warranty ? does it have to be opened and closed with them ?
-Do they include the first opening & closing in that price ?
-Will the ladders, steps be stable prior to pavers ? (bad experience with my pool installer)

Costs I didnt anticipate :

- How the construction equipment would completely DESTROY my yard and require $2k in sod the following year.
- Hitting the water table.
- My gate was not large enough for the equipment to fit thru, had to make a last minute call to fence company to take down and replace fence.

Call your town & see what is required for permit and CO finalization:
-Self closing latches for the gates.
- land survey prior to & after pool was installed.
-height of fences.
- seperate fence around pool required ?
Every town is different.

Pool companies may say you can do pavers right away, most people in construction will tell you to wait a year to allow it to settle.

Good Luck!

How much for a loop lock cover?? I didnt ask this and mine was $5,000!! I almost died.

Electrician Costs
Automatic Pool clearner (Dolphin or Polaris)
New Survey for town

Are they going to put in (sono?) tubes in this will help protect pavers from settleing. We had this done, put the pool in November, then we were able to lay stone in the summer.

Also ask about the water table, we have to de water or something like that because our water table was so high. That cost another $5k!
