DO I have to buy a gift?
Someone I have known for many years had a baby recently. We use to be somewhat close, but drifted apart over the last 5 years or so. She has been ignoring me and not very pleasant to me or about a year or so. She came to my baby shower, my son's Christening, and I think his first birthday. I was never invited to her shower and haven't received a birth announcement. I have seen her once since she gave birth. I congratulated her. Do I have to buy a gift? I am a HUGE gift giver, but I am torn what to do. I figure he doesn't want anything to do with me since I never knew she was pregnant until well after everyone else...

DO I have to buy a gift?
I'm a big gift giver too, but I'd say no on this one. If it's not someone you see or hang out with or is even nice to you, then definitely no need for a gift IMO.

I agree. You could send her a card. If she sends you a birth announcement then you could send a small present.

I would say no unless...you are trying to have a relationship with her. If you are trying to rekindle your friendship a small gift card or baby blanket would be okay but since you said you drifted apart and you didn't know she was pregnant I would say you really don't need to give anything.

AGREED. In this case it seems she is purposely excluding you from her life and being cold to you so in that case I say why bother

I would send a gift. Who knows what is going on in her life - why she's acting like this.... no harm could be done by sending something.

She came to everything you invited her too... I agree... Probably something going on in her life. Hopefully you will be able to work it out.

I was definitely left out of the loop. Her brother and my husband have been friends for 30 years. Nothing going on, just her personality. Her mother even wished that her daughter grows up to be just like her! I will get a card and leave it at that. My son is now 2.5 y/o so all of the stuff we invited her to was a while ago.. Thanks for all the help..
