Have you heard that these new systems are causing a major corrosion issue?? Several of the companies we met with are saying that they are replacing metal plumbing parts, ladders and even filters because of the major corrosion. It makes complete sense but I was wondering if anyone here had this issue or has any experience??

My pool company doesn't install them anymore. i spoke to the owner and his daughter and they both removed them from their pools. not sure if it has anything to do with the type of pool but they said they don't recommend it.

We had one in our old pool and we were there for 4 years and are installing one in the new one. I know that the cell needs to be replaced every 3-5 years.

Honestly, even chlorine causes damage. When we needed to change the liner on that pool 4 years ago, the liner, was at that time, 10 years old. We needed to replace the metal sheathing on a quarter of the pool because the chlorine ate through the metal. From putting chlorine in the skimmer box for years the liner got all bubbly under the skimmer box frame.

it isn't recommended anymore to put chlorine tablets into the skimmer bc the chlorine can and will destroy the pvc lines and skimmer and surrounding structures (happened to us years ago) it used to be standard to put chlorine tablets into the skimmers years ago. not anymore.

use a chlorinator and you won't have that problem.

This is all very interesting as we're most likely getting a pool soon. We were dead set on the saltwater but now this has me wondering. We're going to have to do some research.
