Baby walker

I have an exersaucer type ting for DS and am looking to also get a walker or jumperoo. I heard that walkers aren't good for babies. Does anyone know why?

Re: Baby walker

We got dd a walker that she had to push up on her own to stand - and then she could hold the handle and push it. The sitting in type walkers don't promote making the babies walk on their own.

Re: Baby walker

Our ped is a against them due to possible fall down stairs. We have very steep basement stairs, and this did happen my cousin, so we don't use them.

this is what i was told as well. I've also heard it prolongs children from walking - i didn't find that to be true with my boys

we had a walker - we have a ranch so we have no worries of steps. ds1 used a walker he walked at 13.5 months.
ds2 never used a walker and he walked at 15.5 months

i think its more for falls and also you can't keep them in there the whole day as with any other bouncer/jumper

Can you post which one you have?
Re: stairs, we're in an apt so no stairs.
I heard they are banned in Canada, wonder why they are still sold in US....

Re: Baby walker

As with anything, you have to be careful and alert and use common sense when a child is in a walker.

One of the arguments against walkers is that they are dangerous and kids fall down stairs in them. Well, they won't fall down stairs if the stairs are properly gated off.

Another argument against walkers is that it makes the children walk later. Both my DC used a walker and my DS was walking by 11 months and my DD was walking by 10 months. So I don't agree with that.

I absolutely LOVED using a walker with my DC. They were able to move around in a different way than crawling on the floor. They were able to explore and they loved it as well.

I see nothing wrong with using a walker.

Re: Baby walker

My DS loves his walker. We have only one floor in my house and the house is all tile. He has so much fun exploring and wandering around. I just keep doors closed to rooms I don't want him going in. We have the Kolcraft Tiny Steps Walker. It was relatively inexpensive and it convers to a walking walker when he starts to walk.
