Stretching out feedings

DD will be 7 weeks this week and she is still eating every 2 hours during the day (unless she is napping). She is almost STTN tho, anywhere btwn 5-6 hours.

How can I get her to stretch out her feedings? It makes it very difficult to get anything else done, knowing I only have a 2 hour window.

I've tried increasing her quantity but she is not interested in eating any more then her standard 4 oz a feeding.

You shouldn't try to alter her feedings, she will go for longer stretches on her own when she is ready. It's hard, I know, but babies know what they need. DD ate every 2 hours during the day for 5 months, and every 3 hours at night for 7.

ITA. At that age, you basically just have to follow their lead on feedings. They go through an incredible of changes and growth spurts in the first few months and their bodies know what they need. Hang in there, it gets easier! Chat Icon

Agreed. My DD ate every two hours until she was well into solids.

Re: Stretching out feedings

agree with pp...I would follow baby's lead right now. She knows when she's hungry and she won't eat more when she's not. Their bellies are so small that they can't hold much anyway.

DD is 13 weeks and now eats every 3 hours. Didn't change anything, she just started going 2.5 hours by herself from maybe 9 weeks to 3 hours, sometimes even 3 and a half.
