How do does uterine stretching feel different than a contraction?

Just wondering what the difference is in how it feels. I am paranoid about preterm labor.

To me, a round ligament pain was more like a pulled muscle - and they're not constant or consistent like a contraction would be.

MOST of the time, a contraction radiates from the top of your belly at first (but this is why I didn't realize I was in labor b/c mine was under my belly - more like stomach issue pain).

Re: How do does uterine stretching feel different than a contraction?

Just asked my Dr this question yesterday. I said I feel a lot of cramping and stretching and it scares me, but I feel better if I get up and walk around. She said true labor gets worse if you move around, go for a walk, etc. So the fact that pain is stopping is good sign.
Can't really answer your question. However if the pain stops and doesn't get worse I would assume its stretching.

Those stretching/ligament pains tend (for me anyway) to be in one smaller area (lower belly on one side at a time or a quick stab of pain).

Contractions started as a bad backache and radiated around to the front and it is a squeezing of the whole uterus. They will become a consistent pattern several minutes apart and increase in pain. That is how it was for me anyway...

Kathleen, I had preterm contractions starting at around 23 weeks. I just felt crampy. It didn't feel like real contractions until about 35 weeks.

If you feel anything is off, call your OB. It is better to be safe than sorry. I know the first few times I called I was embarrassed and DH thought I was overreacting, but I was having contractions.

Great question - thanks for posting that. I've been having some weird pains today but I'm pretty sure it's all stretching.
