When does your toddler outgrow the bed rails?

DS is 3 and has been in his full bed with the long bed rails for 7 or 8 months now. He's still all over the place when he sleeps. He starts out correctly on the pillow and under the blanket, but rolls and tosses all night. He's gotten a little better. At first he slept on top of the covers and feet on the pillow or diagonal like he did in his crib. Sometimes I have to move him b.c he's right up against the rail

Of course I have no plans to take them away anytime soon, but was wondering around what age you dont fear them falling off the bed.

Thanks

Not sure but DS1 has been in his big boy bed for just under 2 years now (he is 4.5yo now) and still needs them. He is a violent sleeper and I find him all over the bed and hear him crash into the wall and bed rail numerous times a night.

I am pretty sure he will be going to college before those things can come off!Chat Icon

We took my DD's down at 2.5 years old. I think since then she's rolled out of bed maybe 2 times. We have one side of the bed up against the way and always have pillows on the ground.

With DS his Bed rails came off at 2-2.5. With DD at 3, she still needs them

DS just turned 4 and we still have them on. He has been in his twin sized bed since 2.5. And I've thought about taking them down since one side is against the wall and he is a relatively calm sleeper. But I'd rather be safe than sorry.

DS still has one on his twin bed as he is all over the bed at night. He turns 5 in August.

We took ds rail away when he was 3.5. Honestly because we needed it for his younger brother. He was fine( in a full size bed) but for one time he had fallen out of his bed Chat Icon

AJ sleeps at the edge. We only have a toddler bed with those half rails but she gets right up on them, if not over them with half her body.

However, we put her in our bed or any mattress and she gets only to the edge and stops herself. its strange.

Like rails give her confidence to go farther than if she feels no barrier she stops.

i got rid of my 3.5 yo's bed rails about a month ago. she just seemed not to need them, and they seemed more dangerous than helpful--like she could get a limb stuck, sit on them, climb on them, etc. she was very very proud when we got rid of them, and seems to understand to at least start off closer to the wall. my 2.5 year old still has them and needs them.

DS is 5.5 and he still has them...he is a restless sleeper and I am afraid that he might fall out of the bed Chat Icon

DS is 3.5. He has been in a full size bed for well over a year. He moves around a ton. I have no intention of removing the rails anytime soon.
