Re: Savannah, GA
Not sure how I missed this post, but hopefully I'm not too late answering! DH and I were there about a year ago for 4 days, we had a great time.
With only one day, I think I'd just recommend walking around the city and checking everything out. It's really a very pretty place. There's River Street (touristy stuff, bars, restaurants and souvenirs), and then you can make your way south through the historic district with all the beautiful architecture of the homes and squares, towards Forsyth Park for some people-watching. There are also plenty of tours (walking, bus, trolley, ghosts...) if you're interested.
There are lots of little restaurants and bistros to stop into, but the ones that stick out in my memory are the Pink House and the Pirates House. If you want a nice dinner, I would recommend either of those. The Lady and Sons (Paula Deen's restaurant) is there too, but we didn't make it over there - I believe you need reservations.

If you are bringing kids with you and have any girl scouts, Juliette Gordon Low's birthplace & museum is in Savannah.

Re: Savannah, GA
We ate at Lady and Son's (didn't have a reservation, but waited a long time) and went out to Tybee Island. Paula Deen's brother, Bubba, has a place on the way to the island. Savannah is gorgeous!!!!!
