Does anyone else feel...

like once they get to IVF they are not TTC?

I dont know but I go on the TTC board and I just feel like I cannot relate anymore...Dont get me wrong I am beyond excited to start IVF but the monitoring and procedures is beyond anything I expected...I just feel like I am the girl who is looking in on everything that is happening....maybe I am just going crazy but it feels surreal.

Re: Does anyone else feel...

I'm only at the IUI stage and I totally agree...I feel like it's more like a science project than anything else to me!

whatever works, right?! LOL

Re: Does anyone else feel...

IVF is a whole new reality and it was not an easy one for me to embrace. I conceived my DS easily 4 years ago and I think this is the reason it was hard to accept this route.

The first time I did it a few months ago the whole process felt very unatural to me, I was very anxious, and at times felt down and out. Needless to say, it was not a successful cycle.

This time around I came to a peace with the process, started circle and bloom meditations, have been taking supplements, and have had an attitude adjustment. I also feel a disconnect to the traditional TTC but earlier this week, another TTC'er I know personally, told me she thought I was so strong for doing IVF, and that she could never have the strength or determination to go through it all. I agree with her that we are strong.

All of us who turn to IVF to build our families are like soldiers fighting for a family and warring against infertility. I am learning to take pride in being proactive and wish all of us a successful battle.Chat Icon

I feel very disconnected from the TTC board. I'm not using OPK's, my 2WW is different now- it's a whole different ballgame.

Re: Does anyone else feel...

I've never been on the TTC board, never posted, never lurked! I think I went from TTC after miscarriage to Infertility!

Just some places I've felt more comfortable than others.

Ang, I LOOOOVE your avatar pic!!

To Cindy.. .I feel that way too... and honestly since my first FET, I started feeling like we weren't really having a baby. It just felt like some science experiment... or something.... but not like we were going to get a baby out of it. I'm really trying to stay involved with surrogacy, especially since it's not ME who will be carrying.... So far that's going well for me. When she starts various drugs, I think of it as though I'm the one who started it. I mart it down in my calendar so I could stay as involved as possible with what's going on.......

All I could say is just keep focusing on the end result!! Really, it doesn't matter how you get there!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Does anyone else feel...

try not to lose sight of the goal. when going through all this stuff you HAVE to focus on the bigger picture. its so easy to get bogged down in meds and appointments and the day-to-day. in the big picture your goal is a baby and how you got there will always be a part of your life but it will never again take over your world as much as it does now (at least not until you are trying for another, although once you have one i would guess that you are busy enough with that DC that you just dont get as bogged down the second/third..etc time through the process).

all im saying is at the time of going through infertility, every cycle seemed to have so much meaning and every BFN was so hugely disappointing. looking back on it 2 years later, if i got pregnant in july or august instead of in october... in the big picture it wouldn't have made any difference at all. hell if i had gotten pregnant on my last cycle before IVF and carried to term, my baby would have been born around the same time that she was born anyway (since she was 7w early).

im getting off topic, but all im saying is while its totally normal to feel like you aren't TTC, its your job to remind yourself that you are! in the end the result for the most part will be the same for you as it is for them. and furthermore, there is nothing special at all about TTC without the help of doctors. i mean hell they have to GUESS when they are ovulating and HOPE that they are right!! who wants to deal with that when you can know how many follies you have and how many eggs and how many embryos and how many blasts?! it should be them who envies us, we have a ton more info, and wayyyyyy better percentages of getting pregnant than they do anyway! ABSOLUTELY!! .. I gotta say.. knowing how many follies you have .... knowing you are putting back embryos... etc... in my opinion is SO MUCH BETTER than doing it blindly!!

I know exactly what you mean. Once I started my IUIs I would check out the TTC board and it was so far from where I was and what I was doing. I haven't really been able to put it into words but I definitely don't consider myself TTC.

I often feel the same way. It is definitely different, but I try to embrace. Often, however, I feel somewhat disconnected from it even with all the meds and dr appointments.

a lot of the process is acceptance. if you accept that this is what it will take to get you your baby, it makes things a lot easier to deal with. you've gotten this far, theres no point in fighting what is. good luck!
