If you color your hair, please take my poll
I am new to coloring- I like my color but it's turned very mousy suddenly, and I'm getting gray. And I am wonder what you ladies do.
1) How often do you color?
2) Natural color or different?
3) Salon or DIY?
4) If you DIY, what brand have you gotten the best results with?
TIA.

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
I started going grey when I was 20....so I've been coloring my hair for about 26 years now (yikes!!) I color my hair every 4-6 weeks (it grows really fast, so the grey starts showing again at about 3 weeks). I get it done at a salon...used to do it on my own, but it's annoying to do and I always missed spots. When I did it on my own, I used Feria and loved how natural it looked.

Thanks! I did mine about 6 weeks ago and it looks like it needs to be done again- but I wondered if it was too soon!

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
I color my own hair every 3 weeks. I like to stick with a chestnut brown but I sometimes use a medium auburn. Sometimes, I paint on a few highlights. It's inexpensive ($10 for the kit) so I don't freak about ruining them when I have to do my roots. (Actually, sometimes I like the way it looks when I run the color through.)

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
1) How often do you color? I go for all over color every 2 months. I should go for touch ups more often but my money tree isn't growing any fruit.
2) Natural color or different? Totally different. My natural color is an awful, bland, mousy brown color. I go for a dark but vibrant red.
3) Salon or DIY? Salon. I have DIYed in the past, but it never comes out as nicely.
4) If you DIY, what brand have you gotten the best results with? L'Oreal. In fact, my salon uses L'Oreal dyes for my hair.

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
I do highlights and lowlights at a salon.
I think if you like your color, but feel it's mousy, that might be a good option for you.
It's not crazy dramatic change- but it brings some depth and dimension to your natural color
You can go as subtle or as bold as you want with highlights too

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
1) How often do you color? I do an overall color and I should color it every 4-6 weeks but I do it about every 8 weeks.
2) Natural color or different? I have been coloring my hair since I was 14 so I really don't remember the color of my hair but I am going to say it is a mousy brown. I currently color my hair very dark...like 2 shades lighter than black.
3) Salon or DIY? I used to go to a salon but it was getting too
so now I DIY.
4) If you DIY, what brand have you gotten the best results with? I use L'Oreal Sublime Mousse. It is sooooo easy to use and I do not miss any parts of my roots!

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
1) How often do you color? Every few months (highlights / lowlights)
2) Natural color or different? Every now and then I tone it back to my "natural color" if I've been getting highlights for a while. It's like a "reset" button.
3) Salon or DIY? Usually salon but I have done my own touch-ups and they never usually look right.
4) If you DIY, what brand have you gotten the best results with? Whatever brand has the non-permanent so I don't get roots...

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
I have more than 50% gray, and I do single process permanent color.
Every 6 weeks. Close to my natural brunette. Salon. It costs $40 for the color, not too bad, and it is me time.

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
I do a full color but bc I'm not really grey yet, I only color fall, winter & spring. At that time. I color every 6-8 weeks. In the summer i let the sun do my coloring. My hair is all shades so its pretty in the summer plus I'm in ponytails 99% of the time
When I color I go completely different with.a vibrant red
Only at a salon, don't trust myself enough to do at home.

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
1) How often do you color?
When I get around to it.
2) Natural color or different?
Fairly natural. I'm a dark brown, but use dark blonde or medium golden browns to achieve a natural color.
3) Salon or DIY?
DIY (I've never had good results when I had someone at a salon color or highlight my hair.)
4) If you DIY, what brand have you gotten the best results with?
Wella and Ion from Sally (Demi or permanent based on the gray coverage I need.)

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
1) I have to do my roots every 5-6 weeks or the grey starts to show
2) basically my natural color (I think lol, I've been dying my hair so long, who really knows!)
3) salon mostly, but sometimes I do root touch up at home

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
1) How often do you color? How often I need to and how often I actually do it are two different things. I've been coloring my hair since 1982 ... Because I was a brat in High School and then continued because I have a lot of very stubborn gray. My hair grows fast and also does not hold color well at all. But I'm also lazy about it (maybe because it doesn't last long) and often really let it go. If I had the time and money, I could see myself doing it every 4 weeks optimally.
2) Natural color or different?
Currently get my roots done as close to what we assume is my natural color and I have partial highlights. I usually get on a kick for highlights every other year or so and usually keep them for 4-6 months.
3) Salon or DIY?
Both ... Depends on how I'm feeling. When I'm in a cycle with highlights, obviously I go to the salon.
4) If you DIY, what brand have you gotten the best results with?
I've used pretty much everything and have never been completely satisfied. Between the actual color options, coverage, conditioning, etc - I don't feel for me anything has been she total package.
LOL - I feel like my answers are no help whatsoever!!!!!

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
1) How often do you color? Should: every 4 weeks. Do: every 6 or more.
2) Natural color or different? Natural or just with a slight red tint added to it
3) Salon or DIY? DIY
4) If you DIY, what brand have you gotten the best results with? I aways use Garnier Nutrisse. Not sure if that the best there is but I love the color I use.

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
I have been coloring my hair since I was a teen. My natural color is a medium brown but so mousy it has a greyish tint to it, not pretty!
I used to dye it a reddish color but I don't think it's very flattering. Now I dye it a very dark brown, almost black.
I color once every 2-3 months or as soon as my roots are very visible. I do it myself. Revlon Colorsilk is $3 at Target and gives great coverage.

Re: If you color your hair, please take my poll
I'm blonde - I highlight, so I'm not just doing it to get 'more' blonde, not to cover my grey.
My sister is a stylist, and she does it as nautual looking as possible so I can go a LONG time in between w/o looking like a trashy mess

4 weeks.
Natural color
At home - I goto Sallys and buy the color and developer separately. It's cheaper there and more options. I can color my hair for about 5 dollars where if I had to get from a drugstore I'd need 2 boxes, which would probably be 20 bucks on sale.
