Formula in checked baggage

Going to Italy this summer and DS is on a special formula that I will not be able to get there. This might be a stupid question, but Is it safe to pack powdered formula in bags that are checked? Meaning does the temperature of the part of the plane where they put baggage get too hot or cold so as to spoil the formula?

TIA

Formula in checked baggage

Honestly, I'd carry it with me because it is not something easily replacable.

Re: Formula in checked baggage

I did it all the time when my kids were babies. It was always fine.

Re: Formula in checked baggage

I always checked formula in my bags, it was never an issue.

I'm not sure - does the container say it should be stored in a certain temperature? The hold I think get very hot - and Italy in the summer can be very hot. Since it is a special formula I would consider carrying it onboard with you if you can't replace it. I definitely wouldn't check a ready to feed but not sure about the powder which is why I said I would check the label.

Another consideration. When I studied in florence they lost one of my bags and didn't find it for 2-3 weeks (I was there for 6 weeks). It somehow ended up in someplace like California instead of Florence. If it is a special formula you can't replace what will you do if the bag gets lost?

I would definitely carry it on. You know the trouble Brendan had with the formula in Ireland so I would not risk anything happening to E's formula.

In the past, I have checked it with no problem at all but if God forbid they lose your bag, you (and he!) will be screwed!

Re: Formula in checked baggage

now I think I should.carry it on because the.bags.could get lost ( I didn't think of that.) he will be 13 months when we go, but he is on it for a milk allergy, so I dont know if he will be transitioned to milk by then. my worry is that we will be there for an entire months so that's a LOT of formula to carry on.

thanks, everyone!

Re: Formula in checked baggage

My sister packed hers into her checked baggage with no problem. She did take one in her carry on also.

I would bring one with you and pack the rest in your luggage. Might it be wise to find the name of another formula readily available in Italy that is similar to the one you use before you travel just in case of any kind of emergency?
