Can you reasonably swim in Orlando at the end of Jan?
Just curious. From what I googled the weather can really really vary with hot and cold streaks.
Basically i'm thinking about how much stock to put into the hotel pools when making a decision.

DD went to Disney a few years ago with her dad during christmas break and was swimming! So it is possible. And that pool wasn't heated!

Re: Can you reasonably swim in Orlando at the end of Jan?
Pools are heated - we went one year the 1st week in Jan. It was 70s most days and one day in the 60's, and one day in the 80s. The nights however were in the 30's and 40's I think they had some record lows while we were there. The mornings were cold as well. We had to layer. We did swim one day - and there was probably one other day we could have but decided against it. The pools are heated which is nice but you do have to still get to your room/building so not great if it is really cold. I wouldn't choose a resort in January based on the pool. If you are lucky you will get to use it - but I have had friends who go in January and sometimes they get to swim and sometimes they don't it is just a luck of the draw.

It's really the luck of the draw. One year when we went in January, it was 30 degrees and we wore winter coats and gloves; this past year, we were in shorts and t-shirts every day and it was HOT. Nights were a little cooler and we needed jeans and sweatshirts.
I wouldn't pick a resort solely based on the pool.

I went in January years ago. We never even looked at the pool. Just too cold.

Not Orlando, but we went to atlantis in December 2009 and went in the water once.it was very chilly , so I think FL would be iffy

Re: Can you reasonably swim in Orlando at the end of Jan?
That is going to be a big fat "it depends".
DH and I have taken 4 trips in Dec-Jan and most of the time we have NOT been in the pools. January can have some days in the lower 80's, and the pools are heated, but it can also have days in the 60's and nights in the 30's. If you're going to be swimming in the heat of the midday break, you will possibly have a few days you can swim. I wouldn't count on it either way, and you have to plan to dress your family in layers. Last December we were in tank tops and shorts one day and hoodies and jeans the next,

Not unless they are heated. We went in end of November and it was too chilly for an outdoor pool that is not heated.

Re: Can you reasonably swim in Orlando at the end of Jan?
we got engaged at Disney in January and some of the days we were in shorts and tank tops and the night we got engaged we were in dork matching ski jackets. LOL
ETA: The pools at Disney resorts are heated, but you can be in for a BIG chill when you get out. Dh and i most often go swimming at night in january after the parks close (we usually open 1 park and close another bc we're nuts like that), and getting out of that warm heated pool is ROUGH

My daughter is part fish - okay, mermaid - and so she swims year 'round at Disney. We bring a sweatsuit to the pool and after she's done, we make a run for the bathroom, change out of the wet suit and into her sweats, and then back to the room for a hot shower.

when we went in January we rented a house with a nice heated pool and swam every night...at a hotel I would not have gone near a pool

Disney World resort pools are heated to over 80º but of course it's getting OUT that's the issue. ;)
