House Hunters show accused of being fake
House hunters fake?
I never even thought they might be doing something like this. I always did find it ODD that whatever house most people "want" they get.....so I guess this explains it.

Re: House Hunters show accused of being fake
I had heard that before - i always thought it was staged, I just like to look at the houses, I don't care about the "reality" of it.

I don't know why this is such a secret lol. If you go to the application for the show it says they are looking for people who are in contract, or going Into contract on a house within a certain time period.

I did not know this but it makes sense. I love the show no matter what.

Re: House Hunters show accused of being fake
i actually know someone who had their house shown to someone on house hunters..their process was very different
they were actually selling, but they had to sign a contract with hgtv saying that they wouldn't sell until the buyers on house hunters made their decision..and sometimes the 3 houses they showcase are shown to the buyers months apart...
so they went on the show, and then couldn't show their house to anyone for about 6 months, although it was still on the market..and the people didn't even choose their house

This I didn't know. The buyers do get a small monetary incentive for being on the show but those terms suck for sellers!

Re: House Hunters show accused of being fake
i always assumed that they buyers had "pre-choosen" their house. it just seemed that way from their reactions to each home. i didn't care though. I sometimes just like watching the process of viewing/comparing the homes. I also don't believe that "reality" TV is ever "real".

Re: House Hunters show accused of being fake
I posted this the other day, I know someone who was on Househunters International. They already owned the house, the production company pays for their house to be completely emptied and to have everything put in storage, they pay for them to fly back home to do their goodbye scenes...its all fake. But it does give a good indication of what properties are out there Internationally.

How is that possible though when they make changes to the house? Don't they sometimes do those like "1 month later..." scenes where a whole bunch of stuff is changed?

Re: House Hunters show accused of being fake
it's not necessarily 'fake'.. just staged
i think the HGTV explanation makes sense, i mean how realistic is it to actually follow a couple around while they look for houses and the tv crew just happens to be with them when they find the one they're going to buy? It logistically makes sense they they've already decided when they go back to the house to film.
i'm sure the majority of people watch for the same reason - we all like to see other people's houses and the fun of trying to pick which house the couple will chose!
