consignment shops/fake
i bought what i thought was a real necklace today from a consignment shop. i asked store staff if it was real and they said yes, absolutely, we turn away all fakes. i feel in love with it and bought it as an early bday present for myself. i get home, take pics of it, show my friends and family, etc, etc. i go online to see if got a deal and it turns out what i bought was a replica that goes for 1/6th of what i paid!!! i took it back and got into it with the owner who said she can authenticate everything in the store, but the brand i bought!! wtf? that is not what they said when i bought it!! has anyone ever had an incident like this at a consignment shop before? they have so many high end items i would love and now i am leary....

Very sorry this happened to you. I've never been in the situation but i've bought from high-end consignment stores, so i can imagine how upset you must be. Was this somewhere on LI? I would not drop it. Can you "prove" that it's fake? Perhaps consider small claims court?

Yes, it was here on long island. i threatened to call the cops and the owner said 'call whoever you want'. i feel like I got punched in the stomach.

So they didn't give you a refund?
I would not only try the cops, I would try one of the news stations. Like Shame on You.

Thanks. i already wrote up a review on the local patch and will go back on tuesday. she said she will contact owner and get 'proof'. if i can't get it, i will call the police, this was fraud.

nope! I went back 3 hours after purchasing it....i was livid to find it was a fake when i was promised it was real. as soon as i found out, i jumped in the car and went right back.

You most likely would have a 'reasonable expectation of authenticity'. This probably breaks laws on top of the anti-counterfeiting trademark, copyright, fair trading, fraud, etc etc.
It's possible that even possessing this would be illegal.
I would call the Better Business Bureau on the consignment shop.

It was a chanel pearl necklace. half white, half black pearls with C's intermingled. when i went back they said they can authenticate everything BUT chanel. um, sales lady did not say that when we discussed the item, when she pulled out the book to authenticate and price it and huge sign in place that says everything is real, there is no fine print that says...but chanel.....i am supposed to hear back tomorrow, they are trying to get the original owner to give a receipt...somehow i doubt i will get a call. It was a bday present to me and i'm really upset....why say everything is real if you can't prove it and then take it back when i call you on it?? i don't want anyone else to get suckered so i am telling everyone in town to be careful and posted on the patch...this is such bs.

I would do the same. I'd put a review on Yelp, I'd call BBB, and shout their name all over LIF. I would probably wait until they give you a definite answer though---but it should be illegal representing that something is authentic when it is not. You don't see the vendors on Canal Street telling you a Chanel necklace is authentic. They may try to get a high price for it but they would never say its authentic.

If you go back to the store, I would take a picture of that sign saying everything is real. That way if you should pursue this further, you have proof of their sign. Incase they decide to put up a new one.

Well, today was the day, store owner was to call me about it. Real with proof i was to get today. No call. My neighbor went in there and played dumb and asked if they had any Chanel necklaces and woman who sold it to me said, we did, but we "got rid of it saturday". I kinda figured she wouldn't call with proof. I am going tomorrow to take care of it once and for all. I want my money back. I didn't mention, but necklace broke when i held it...i figured at the time, oh it must be soft metal, expensive, now i know, FAKE, cheap metal. The store was in Port Washington. It is new, billed itself as a high end consignment store..

No problem. I wouldn't be surprised if you get your money back from the bank and get to keep the necklace. Just provide proof to the bank that it's fake.
For instance on ebay if you buy something and it's counterfeit... you can dispute with ebay and they automatically give you the money back and you DON'T have to return the item to the seller. They are very strict about things like that.

Thank you! So glad to check my card today and see the credit. Never again, I learned my lesson! They didn't even have the decency to call me to say, you know what, we were wrong, you were right, it was fake. i would have appreciated that...but for now, the money is just as good!
