If you live in a town with a cute village area...
Like Sayville, Cold Spring Harbor, Northport, Stonybrook etc. what are some of your favorite type of village shops/businesses? Is there any type of business you wish you. Had on your main street?
Just having a bad work week and trying to brainstorm some Plan Bs...

Re: If you live in a town with a cute village area...
I live in Babylon Village
I love the bars, resturants and clothing stores
I wish we had a healthy spot for lunch or take out
the only place I can grab a quick salad is the greek place
there are way too many bakeries and candy shops

i love a store that you can depend on to always find a little gift for someone.. like willy nilly in bayshore. signs, jewelry, cards, notepads, candles. and added bonus if they package it up nicely when you buy it.. i would love to open a place like this but not sure how profitable they are.

Re: If you live in a town with a cute village area...
We live in Floral Park and I love the village. We have a supermarket, Hallmark store, our bank, dry cleaners, froyo, plenty of bars, restaurants, bakeries, pizza place, wine store - the only thing we are missing on the main street is a good butcher/fish monger. It would be so nice to walk off the train and be able to pick up fresh ingredients for dinner. I love the walkability of our town, so that would be great.

Re: If you live in a town with a cute village area...
I live in Sayville.
I love our toy store because it's NOT Toys R Us.. it has unique and cute little gifts like tin toys and wind ups that you really can't grab elsewhere. I also love The Five Star... which is kind of like an upscale Five and Dime. It's cute and has a variety of items .. my kids love the toy section and I love the home goods.
I also really like our small hardware store and the little specialty wine boutique. The candy shoppe is great too.
I was thinking I really wanted a cupcake bakery.. and we recently got one.. but it's been kind of a disappointment to be honest.
I would really like to see a little soda shoppe or old fashioned ice cream shoppe with soda fountains, etc..

Ditto!
Some other faves: jeweler, deli, small supermarket, nail salon, pharmacist, 5 & 10.

This.
A healthy place to get something to eat. Too many big restaurants, pizza, chinese...
I'd like something quick that isn't just a deli and is actually good for you

Love a coffee/dessert shop like Babylon Bean - some place to stop in after a movie or after a stroll after dinner.

Re: If you live in a town with a cute village area...
Im renting in RVC and these shops are within a 2 block radius. About 30 Restaurants and bars bars combined, nail salons, gym, yoga studios, florists, chocolate store, several small home/gift stores, Ice cream parlor, coffee shops, deli's, bakery, take out (pizza and Chinese), several small clothing stores, diner, bowling, movie theatre, umm yeah. Lol. I think that's it. I love RVC and am sad to leave it since everything for me is within walking distance.
We're moving to Malverne which also has a village area but I'm not too sure what's there yet.

Re: If you live in a town with a cute village area...
Id love a healthy restaurant. In Florida I love going to this wrap place. They make your drinks in front of you with fresh fruit and I get a spinach wrap with carrots, tomato, lettuce etc and its SO fresh tasting. All healthy eating. I LOVE having an outdoor place to sit, even if its kind of on the side walk :)

Have you tried John Johns? Although I would kill for a la Bottega.

Yes - we need a good sit-down ice cream parlor. Throw in some yummy baked desserts too and good coffee.

Oh YES! Coffee, some brownies or cupcakes - even other small bites would be welcome.
I just realized I keep saying Shoppe.. WTF? Such pretense on my part. I don't know why that is stuck in my head!!

Re: If you live in a town with a cute village area...
We live in astoria now which has pretty much everything in walking distance. I think every town needs a good greek place, italian, thai and mexican. A nice sit down ice cream parlor with soft serve as well as regular ice cream would be nice. Also a really good bakery with great coffee is a must. A nail salon, yoga studio and gymboree would round it out for me
