Anyone traveling to Mexico?

Are people still traveling to Mexico with all the killings going on? I saw more news on it last night.

I am trying to plan some kind of tropical vacation with my DH in August for our anniversary. Was going to go to Bermuda again, but we like to have some sort of nightlife and it was a bit quiet, although is a beautiful island. I starting thinking Mexico, as other than a few hours on a cruise, we have never been. But started to think twice after seeing the news last night.

There are parts of Mexico that are totally fine for travel. Cabo San Lucas, Playa Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, and Riviera Maya come to mind.

DH and I went to Mexico for our honeymoon. We stayed at an all inclusvie, and it was amazing. We didn't feel unsafe at all.

BIL/SIL just went for their 1 year anniversary last week. It was fine. They stayed at an all-inclusive resort.

Re: Anyone traveling to Mexico?

It's fine as long as you avoid the border towns. Was in staying in a tiny resort outside of Puerto Vallerta 2 weeks ago and had no problems. We were in the middle of no where and not in some huge all inclusive behind gates. The worst thing to happen was I came down with mantazuma's revengeChat Icon You'll be fine. Enjoy your vacay.

That's a good map.

We have a house in Puerto Penasco (on the map - yellow). We haven't heard of anything, but DH refuses to go and he lived in Mexico for a good 5 years when it was even more corrupt.

I think for now I would choose someplace else there are many beautiful islands that have nightlife. I am not sure how much I would trust that map. My father used to have to go to Mexico city for business. They had drivers and escorts whenever they left the hotel. They told him down there that they love to kidnap businessmen and tourists as well as setting up travelers to extort money. The map posted lists the city as green. As far as I have heard it has not improved. I guess I look at it this way. There are so many safe beautiful places why wonder or stress over your safety when you could go somewhere where you can just relax and have a good time.

He is pretty jaded by Mexico in general, so probably not, but not b/c he thinks it wouldn't be safe.

My BIL/SIL/niece still go to Penasco with no problems.

ETA: I asked DH and he first said, it's not b/c of the killings - he just doesn't want to go back to Mexico (jaded) and then he said "why not go somewhere that is all green. I don't want to be the person to turn the green to the yellow"

He also said that even when Penasco was green, it was still so corrupt. If Americans do anything wrong (speeding, etc), you never know what can happen to them.
