Re: Manorville - Eastport/South Manor Schools?

My daughter went there for K-2, I have experience with South Street elementary. The school was ok, it is small so everyone knew my daughter, which was nice. A lot of the teachers were very hands on. The PTA had a fair amount of events, and the kids go on a lot of field trips.

The downside was it was very cliquey, many of the parents were standoffish. The principal doesnt dow much to deter bullying, and a lot of the kids had problems on the school bus that were never addressed.

Where are you looking, inEastport schools or South Manor? Manorville has really high taxes. There are houses in Mastic (known as Manor Park) that go to Manorville schools. There is one house near my parents house that is on a dead end with almost a full acre for 289k I think.

Did your daughter continue at Dayton Ave or did you move? I am surprised and disappointed to hear the it was cliquey, since we are coming from a neighborhood like that and I was hoping to get away from that kind of environment.

Was there really bullying in a k-2 school? My gosh!

We moved to Nassau county, so she didn't continue on to Dayton. Everyone knew eachother from prek and day care (Manor Woods is the prek everyone goes to, but it is $$$$), so if your kid didn't they are kind of am outsider. For an example to the cliques, I had my daughters bday party at a bounce place, and not a single parent there spoke to me or my husband- and we were the ones hosting the party!

The bullying was kind of bad, my daughter was picked on for not wearing name brand clothes. The buses were the real problem, kids were beaten up all the time and nothing was done. My daughter was beaten up by a second grade boy when she was in kindergarten and the principal just made him apologize.

I loved most of the teachers though. They were really great.

Wow, that is terrible that there would even be bullying in those grade levels. I cannot imagine how a principal would not have a no tolerance policy against things like that. Have you heard if things are different at the Eastport elementary?

Thanks for the feedback, and sorry to have hijacked the original posters thread, it is just that I have been looking for feedback myself for a while now and have not gotten any. I hope we can get some more responses...so we can make informed decisions.

I am in Manorville and my kids will be going to this school district. I also grew up here so I have gone there myself. my dd will be starting their upk program in sept so I will know more then but I wouldn't have bought our house here if I didn't have a great experience myself.

So it seems that the south manor side of the district has some issues with bullying and administration not taking enough action, but no issues at Eastport Elementary from what I have learned.

The thing is they all merge at the middle/high school level so I wonder how things are there.Chat Icon
