Cruise room opinions wanted
I will be sailing on the Liberty of the Seas, Western Med Cruise for September. I have a center hump balcony cabin booked at $1399. A center hump room is a room that extends out further than the rest of the balcony rooms, a little bit extra balcony room.
The Guarantee Balcony Staterooms came out today for $1099. That is a $600 difference for DH and I.
Would you change and lose the hump and risk getting a room in a less desirable part of the ship (under the buffet, under hot tubs or over one of the bars/clubs where it might be noisy)
This is a long port days cruise with only 1 day at sea if that makes a difference.
I love that a was able to get the hump but I also would love the $600.
I dont know what to do

Re: Cruise room opinions wanted
Depends on the guarantee. Usually a guarantee rate gives you the minimum category you will be in. It's possible those categories don't even have the same issues you're describing. It's worth checking the rate and the deck plan.
Do you really want the extra balcony space,or is it a just "nice to have?"
I did a GTY on our last cruise and i ended up with an amazing room, several categories above what we were guaranteed. If the rooms you're talking about are in lower categories, the risk of getting them would, I would think, be lower, since with GTY rates they will often bump you up to sell a lower price stateroom at full price.
Your room won't be in a prime location (we were like, miles from the elevators, it seemed) but you won't necessarily end up with a bad room.
Another thing you can do is play around on the cruise line's website and see if you can see which rooms are available. That way you can see if what'sleft at this point is all really crappy, or still pretty good. It's not a guarantee, but it can certainly give you an idea.
ETA: For me I would go guarantee. I'd hope for an upgrade, and with just the 2 of you the hump is nice, but npo big deal, you'll both still fit on the balcony. You could do an amazing couples massage or a great excursion for $600 which will add more enjoyment to your cruise than the hump will.
if you're a really light sleeper and oiuse would really disturb you, that changes the calculus a little bit, but all things being equal, I'd save the $600

Re: Cruise room opinions wanted
Is that 600 total or per person? Not that it matters actually since thats a big difference in price.
I would go guaranteed if you know for a fact that you're ok with getting the worse of the cabins in the guaranteed category
Also, I think if you're going during nonpeaks season there's a better change of the guarantee cabin working in your favor.
You can probably find out your assigned cabin anywhere from day of embarkation to 3 weeks before sail date. Either way, if you don't like your assigned cabin, you can ask for an upgrade before sail date or once you're on the ship.
Sometimes you can even get a better cabin category for the same price or less! Sign up for price drop alerts or visit the cruisecritic.com's forum thread for your sail date to keep track.

Check out cruise critic.com, they will have threads with reviews of specific rooms on certain decks of the ship.

I am on Cruise Critic- There is a 3 page thread about this on the RCCL Forum. I just wanted other peoples perspective on this.
I did it yesterday at 3:30 and by 6:00 I got my cabin assignment. I am so happy! $600 in my pocket, upgraded room from a E2 to a D2 Cat and its only 8 rooms away from the original room.
I think I got the Deal of the Day!!

Re: Cruise room opinions wanted
I have to add that if anyone who cruises hasnt signed up on Cruise Critic- do it!! I signed up last summer and all the hints that I got from doing so is amazing. I would have never know to watch for price drops. Plus I am talking to other people on my sailing and am able to share excursions which will be saving us money!!

Re: Cruise room opinions wanted
Since your cruise is port intensive, you won't be using your balcony much. I would switch to a guarantee and save the money for some awesome excursions!
Eta: I see that's what you did. Glad you got such a wonderful deal!!!!
