above ground pool
We are strongly considering an above ground pool! I'd love to hear the good, the bad and the ugly.
Who is really great to work with, who to stay away from and how much are we looking at?
We don't want something huge - probably round, standard size.
Thanks so much in advance!!!

Re: above ground pool
I don't have a lot of experience as we bought the house with the pool already installed....but from my experience so far I would stay away from island rec

I really did not enjoy working with Island Rec. They have (since my issues last year) done a lot to try and win back my faith.. but only after letters to the BBB, etc.. They were REALLY inexpensive compared to other quotes though.
I really don't love having a pool if the truth be told. It's a lot of work for a relatively short amount of fun time. It costs a lot to maintain and it's kind of tedious.
BUT - it is nice on super hot days to be able to jump in and cool off. And it can be relaxing to sit in a lounge chair with a nice cocktail and just soak up some sun. AND it's good entertainment for bored kids on hot days. AND if you enjoy company having a pool is usually a good incentive to get them to come over. And it's a nice 'extra' form of entertainment for guests at your parties. And it's nice for fun times with your hubs when the kids are in bed.

Re: above ground pool
the house we bought already had a pool installed which was a HUGE plus for me. we absolutely love having a pool, its great for parties and relaxation. DH and i use it several times during the week in the summer. its like having a vacation in your own yard! go for it!

Re: above ground pool
Forgot about pricing. The price of our above ground 21 foot round/5 foot deep pool was about $2K including pool, liner and pump. Another $500 for installation, leveling equipment and crew tips. Another $500 for chemicals and pool floats/toys and long handled skimmer with net. We used Island Rec. We got a higher quote from Brothers 3 for a smaller pool.. but after all is said and done (a lot of problems and customer service issues) - we may have been better off just paying more for a service that has so much less in the way of complaints.
