Farm Shares
I'm thinking of doing one this summer. I'm trying to decide between Garden on Eve and Earthworm. Has anyone done this before? Any recommendations?
Also, should I do a full share or half share for 4 people?
Thanks!

Re: Farm Shares
We have had the Golden Earthworm share for I think 4 years now. Nothing but great things to say about it! The food is so fresh, delicious and you get so much!
We split it with BIL/SIL and their families. We are each families of 4 (2 young kids each) and it's plenty of food. We cook often and my SIL is a huge, huge cook, and splitting works perfectly fine. Because you get a variety of foods and for many weeks you may get the same stuff, splitting it just makes sense!

Re: Farm Shares
I did Garden of Eve a few years ago. The food was great and it was a really interesting experience. I think I did a half share for DH and I and it was so much. My only complaint was that it wasn't necessarily things I would buy or could easily make a meal out of. I sometimes felt that I was spending a lot just buying ingredients to turn their produce into an actual dish. I figured I could spend the same amount at the farmers market and pick out exactly what I wanted.

Re: Farm Shares
This will be my fourth year doing Golden Earthworm and I love it! The first year I did a full share and it was a lot. Since then, I have split it with someone. I like splitting it because then I can go to the farmer's market the weeks that I don't get the share. If you do Golden Earthworm, they don't do half shares...you have to find your own person to split with.

This is my concern with doing a farm share.
I worry about having too much waste as well.
Plus it's so fun to go to the farmer's market and pick out the stuff myself!
(Sorry if I'm not a help).

Re: Farm Shares
I've been doing Golden Earthworm for a few years. The quality of the veggies are great, but be prepared to feel like you're on an episode of Chopped every week. I usually find myself planning meals more carefully than usual to make the most use out of the veggies. On the flip side, I like getting access to veggies I normally don't see or would try in the supermarket. It forces me to try something new.
I split my share with another LIFer and that seems to work well. (We have 2 adults and 2 kids). If I finish my veggies early, that gives me a one week break from being on "Chopped."
I tried the fruit share for the first time last year, and it wasn't for me. There's only so many apples and pears I could eat. I'm sticking to veggies only.

I did Garden of Eve & had the same problem. Seriously - like how much Rhubarb can someone have?
I only did it one season & then continued heading to farmer's markets for fresh produce.
