If you live 45 minutes or so from your dr/hosp
I absolutely love my doctor and its not an option to change. My doctor is in Bayside, where I used to live. I also work in Manhasset so thats not far at all plus my doctor delivers at North Shore/Manhasset. Only thing is I live in Lindenhurst. I am trying not to think about it so much and just plan to leave early when I feel contractions but then again, Im a little nervous with the hospital being so far and my doctor being even further.
Anyone else in this same position. How are you handling it? Do you have a plan? Without traffic , its 35 minutes but with traffic, it could be 45 minutes to an hour.. I guess worse case is that I could call 911 for an ambulance to take me if it was rush hour or something..

Re: If you live 45 minutes or so from your dr/hosp
I'm about 45 minutes from the hospital I'll be giving birth at and with traffic it could be worse. I was actually just joking with DH earlier that I'd better not go into labor during rush hour! I'm just figuring and hoping that since it's my first child that the baby won't be ready to come out right away so I should have plenty of time to get there. It might just be a really uncomfortable car ride!

Going into labor is not like the movies... And especially with your first... Your going to be in labor for awhile before you have to actually push... Youll have plenty of time to get there...
When you feel contractions and you call your dr most times they tell you to relax shower then come to the hospital. Most of the time your water doesnt break... Ive heard of a lot of people who dont even feel.contractions but rather a bunch of symptoms that make them feel a lil off and call the Dr...
Eta: talk to your dr about it... They will tell you with your first its a long labor... How far along are you? Didnt your dr discuss this with you?

Re: If you live 45 minutes or so from your dr/hosp
Just a FYI. If you call 911 they will take you to the closest hospital so for you it would be good Sam. Just so you know if there was an emergency you would not be seeing your dr
I live in farmingdale and when my water broke the 15 min drive to good Sam was the longest drive of my life. It felt like forever. I couldn't imagine being farther away.

Re: If you live 45 minutes or so from your dr/hosp
No need to worry, like you said, 911 is there if there was really an issue.
In many parts of the country people aren't 15 minutes away from hospitals, and labor is *usually* quite long. I think you'll be fine, I def. wouldn't stress about it. I was only about 15 min from the hospital, but from the time they told me to go, until the time I was checked in, it was prob. about 2 hours, and all was ok.

Crashing, but you'll be fine. Really. I don't know if this will make you feel better, but I was in labor with DD for more than 24 hours. We could've chosen a hospital in Boston and gotten there with time to spare. The car ride might suck, but you'll definitely make it!

Re: If you live 45 minutes or so from your dr/hosp
I live in another state from my doctor & hospital...across a bridge which traffic can suck on! I'm 45 mins no traffic...with it could take up to 1.5 hrs. With DD I was induced almost a week late but I was staying at my parents house only 15 mins from hospital 2 weeks prior to my due date. I'll see how things go this time - may just start staying with my parents once I hit my due date. Don't want to uproot DD any longer than I have to.

Re: If you live 45 minutes or so from your dr/hosp
we live pretty far from our hospital i want to say about 30 mins away without traffic.
We're in Bay Ridge Brooklyn and are planning on giving birth at Lenox Hill. We're trying to figure out alternative routes because the BQE could be crazy and FDR drive.
