DH and I are fighting over our DS' name

So a while ago DH and I decided on a name if we were going to have a DS. The name we picked is similar to DH's but not exact. Well we found out at our 20 week sono that we are having a boy, and now DH all of a sudden wants to name our DS after him. This makes me really mad because I really liked the name we picked out and I kinda wanted our DS to have his own name. Have any of you been in this predicament? Not sure how we will resolve this, we fight about this every time DH brings it up (usually when he refers to the baby as his name).

DH's cousin's name is Landon. They named their son Lanson. I think that's kinda funny. It's his own name, but very close to his daddy's name.

In any event...

Can you write him a letter or email about how you feel? Maybe get it all out there at once (maybe even type it so you can read it over a few times and edit it down so it's not too long). Then he can read it and just understand where you're coming from?

Another good thing to do is a pro-con list of why you want him to have his own name vs. why not. Maybe you'll find that it isn't that big a deal after all for them to share a name.

Naming a child is a difficult and emotionally taxing process! I hope you two come to an agreement soon so it won't be a point of contention between you. No matter his name, you'll both love him with all your hearts!!

I would just say stand your ground and stick to what you believe in. Maybe DH will come around. I agree that children should have their own names. Maybe emphasize how the name you two originally chose is so close to his name that it is still honoring him and his name but still giving DS a name to call his own...

My DH did the SAME THING!!! We decided on a name before we were even pregnant , although its not similar to his name. Even though I genuinely do love DH's name - I always told him I don't like the idea of Jr's, I just would want my son to have his own name. He agreed. All of a sudden when we found out we were having a baby and when we found out it was a boy, he all of a sudden changed his mind and said he always wants a jr. I just told him i loved his name, I just don't like the idea of a jr. He still brings it up - we don't fight about it, but he does constantly make me feel guilty about it. I always just say we're going to have to compromise on things - in order to compromise on a name, we should chose something we BOTH love. There are some names I love that DH doesn't, and therefore we wouldn't name him that either. We BOTH need to love it equally. He seems to understand whenever I explain it that way.

I have no advice. I would have named my ds after my dh, he didn't want to.

You could always pick a name for ds and make the middle name your dh's name.
