Running cable wires
I need to run cable wires across my entire house to the family room. The problem is that room is on a slab while the rest of the house has a basement under it. Who could I get to do this, can I call cablevision, and then tip the person extra money?

Re: Running cable wires
Yes you can call cablevision and expect to give the guy a very nice tip as they are not supposed to be running internal wires.

Re: Running cable wires
Do you know if the floor joists and/or the ceiling joists go in the direction you need the wire to go, or against them? It makes a huge difference if there is a nice long open run for the wires across the room, versus having to drill holes in every joist.
An electrician is also skilled at running wires/cables through the walls, if the Cablevision guys won't do it.

Am I supposed to be honest on the phone when calling about what I need?
What is a good tip, like $100? Or more?

Okay the house was completely ripped out and our one cable is in a bedroom on the other side of the house. We can run under the entire basement, and once we get to the family run supposedly we can put into the garage and over to the family room, because we want the tv to me moounted on the wall.
And I have no idea what a floor joist is! I have absolutely no idea about any of this!

Re: Running cable wires
I used to be an installer for Cablevision. I would tell them up front its going to be a custom job. If you dont you dont know what your going to get. Is your basement ceiling finished? If so you might be better off just calling an electrician. You can FM me if you have any questions.
