Which cruise do you think?

DH & I are beginning to plan our 40 birthday/10th Anniversary vacation for 2013. Kids are staying with nonni & grandpa Chat Icon .

We are big cruisers. We've been on at least 10 cruises, on pretty much all major lines. Looking to leave out of NY, just for the ease of it all. These appear to be our choices:

1. Norwegian Gem (7 nights), to Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay, and Port Canaveral, FL. Not totally loving the stops, but the ship will move every night so the casino will be open.

2. Carnival Splendor (8 nights), to San Juan, St. Thomas, Grand Turk Island

3. Carnival Splendor (8 nights), to Grand Turk Island, Half Moon Cay, Nassau.

4. Norwegian Breakaway (7 nights) to Bermuda. Ship will dock at Bermuda 2 nights, so no casino that night. Also - did this itinerary on the Dawn back in 2009 and in 2007 with Celebrity.

Looking to go the middle/end of August, although if I do not secure a teaching job, we could push it back slightly so kids will be in school.

Any thoughts?

ETA: #1 is about $400 cheaper, and 2-4 are all within about $50-100 to each other for comparable rooms.

We are actually doing the same thing. Taking a cruise for our 10th anniversary August 2013 lol.

We have decided on the Breakaway. The boat looks awesome and I convinced my DH to splurge for a Haven suite.

LOL, too funny!

I do prefer NCL over Carnival, because even a basic suite is less $$ and comes with a lot more perks. Feel like you need to spend a lot more room-wise to get suite perks on Carnival.

I usually cruise NCL.
With that said, I like the places in 2 and 3 better the 1 and 4. If you are sticking with NCL then I would do #4 since its their newest ship. I am going on #1 in 20 days but thats bc I have the kids and the places are children friendly. For a special occasion this would probably be my least fave of what you have named.

It would be between 2 & 3 for me. If San Juan is during the day and not one of those night stops, I'd choose that one. I personally did not like Nassau but half moon cay and grand turk are def cool!

Splendor to Half Moon, Grand Turk, & Nassau.

It would be the perfect cruise for me if they would replace Nassau with St. Thomas! Chat Icon

DH and I did the HMC, GT, Nassau itinerary from NY on the Carnival Miracle and we had a great time! Grand Turk is one of my favorite stops and HMC is breathtakingly beautiful!

Re: Which cruise do you think?

Thanks ladies!

#4 is last on DH's list because he really enjoys the casino, and after doing Bermuda 2x in the last 5 years, do we really need to go again?

BUT . . . he loves the suite experience. Have to see what is comparable on Carnival.

Re: Which cruise do you think?

I would do #2 for ports, or #4 for the Breakaway. I am dying to get on that ship!

I edited. I originally put #3, but #2 is better. Nassau is not a great port, but I usually do like the private islands.

Honestly, I'd go for the Breakaway. I like the itenerary best (since you get a few days in one spot to explore, though you might not agree since you've done it twice before) and the ship looks fantastic. Anyone who is going on the breakaway better report back! I want all the details! Chat Icon

Personally, i would do cruise #2
Dh & I HATE the Bahamas. We've had such bad experiences there and we would never spend money to go there and just come back if that was the highlight of our trip.

No. 2 looks like it would have the best itinerairy and i personally like Carnival over NCL any day.

Can I ask if you are locked into those 4 or if you could pick something else? I know you have done the celebrity before - but what about their cruise from NJ to Bermuda? August is a nice time to do that. Would be a great cruise without children as they pamper the adults. Also you would avoid the bahamas.

Totally not locked into those 4, but when I did a search on cruises.com for NY departures in late August, they were the only 4 that came up.

Let me see if NJ departures was a different category, feel like a lot sites lump them together.

ETA: Cruises.com doesn't have any cruises leaving NJ after April 2013 Chat Icon

Celebrity's website is listing the Summit to Bermuda in August 2013 - and you can book right through their site. It might be early for discounter websites. If you book now though you would have your pick of rooms most likely and could probably get a aft concierge class cabin with a huge balcony if you wanted it.

I could be wrong but I think there is also a 6 night Bermuda trip from Bayonne with RCCL.
