Need help with my skin!!

I have the WORST acne ever. I've been to 7 different dermatologists and no one has been able to help me. I'm allergic to antibiotics, have tried everything short of Accutane. I had posted here a while back and have decided not to do the Accutane because I think we're going to ttc #3.
Sooooo...I use a mix of Cetaphil in the morning now and Proactiv at night. It helps a little but both my cheeks are just riddled with pimples. And what's worse is that sometimes I just get dark spots-not actual pimples.
I've been on the pill for PCOS in the past but the last dermatologist checked my hormones and they're normal.
I'm wearing a crap load of makeup and I hate it. Anyone have any advice, methods, anything?? I might try the Accutane after (and if) I have baby #3 just out of desperation.
Sorry..it's long!

Re: Need help with my skin!!

first did they test your hormones while ON BCP? if so the results arent accurate.

second you should see an endocrinologist for hormonal issues bc i truly feel they know alot more about it than a derm in general

cetaphil is not cleansing enough for me..and leaves a residue. i like cerave better but lately i have been using philosophy face wash its amazing and no film at all.

i found when i used proactive it made my acne better and then much much worse

have you use glycolic or lactic acid peels at all? what makeup do you use? what hair products ? all this can add up to issues on your face

havce you been screened for rosacea? bc alot of times thats what half of the acne is.

xoxo

Thanks for your response!
I should have clarified about the BCP. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 19. I was on BCP and Aldactone for years -which helped. I had my 2nd child and never went back on the pill because I wanted to see how I did. I recently was retested-my hormonal levels and they showed normal. My OB did mention that your body can kind of reset itself after kids because now my periods are regular, etc.
I do have rosacea and have used Metrogel for that. It helped for a while but stopped working. No peels at all. I use a light L'Oreal concealer and foundation.
I've got cysts along my jawline, which don't go away.
I guess I'm just looking for a new product or something since we're going to be ttc, Accutane or BCP is not really an option right now.
I'm such a mess!

Hi! My acne was never as severe as you described, but I did get it, especially after my second child. I swear by Murad!!! Give it a try!

Re: Need help with my skin!!

Did thgey do bloodtests on day 3 of your period for the hormones? If not might not be accurate. Cystic acne is mosssstly hormonal. Trust me I know. Plus u have had babies so the hormones go wonky. I would try aha or glycolic peels and whenever u can go without makeup. I have been there. Gl oxox

Re: Need help with my skin!!

You can still go on birth control even if your PCOS is under control. If it helped I would do that unless you are actively ttcing.

Also the chemical peels do help.

Lastly, I agree about seeing an endocrinologist.

Good luck.

Get rid of the Cetaphil, its not great for someone acne prone. I just started using The Body Shops Tea Tree line and it is clearing my face up really well! 4 days later I see a dramatic improvement!

Re: Need help with my skin!!

I have rosacea and use Rosaderm face wash when it flairs up and I break out. It is great but by prescription only. I use that with Duac gel and it works better than any antibiotics I tried taking orally. I use Eucerin redness relief face wash on a daily basis and it seems to prevent my Rosacea symptoms most of the time. I agree with the pp lose the Cetaphil face wash- it makes me break out too. Another thing that really helped my skin is I stopped using sunscreen with Oxybenzone and switched to one with zinc oxide and it has helped prevent breakouts.

Re: Need help with my skin!!

Try Kiehl's as well - love their stuff. A little pricey but worth it.

BTW - we need to do dinner one night! xo
