Provera
Has anyone had to take this before?
I recently came off the pill (in January) and ever since then I have had irregular periods...I haven't had my period since February!
The beginning part of march I went to see my obgyn because I have been having night sweats and sweat horribly during my workouts-which is not normal for me, and I also have had acne everywhere including my head and greasy hair-which is also not normal for me. They did some blood work and everything came back fine, It was showing that I was in the follicular stage.
However, it is April 10th and I still have no period...I'm beginning to think that maybe I'm going through menopause...my doctor called in a prescription for provera and I'm waiting until this weekend to take it.
I'm new to this board and prefer to stay anonymous but figured maybe someone on here has been through a similar situation. Thanks :)

Re: Provera
May not be much help since I did not have your symptoms but I took a generic brand (progesterone) to bring on my period after a D&C. took for 10 days and got my period 3 days after the last pill. I have been regular since.
note: I was regular prior to my ms and D&C.

Re: Provera
I took it a few years ago after I came off birth control, my period stopped due to pcos, I got my period within a few days of taking it.
I actually might be taking it again now bc I had a Lap and D&C last month and I haven't gotten my period since. I went for blood work yesterday to see where I am in my cycle.
I didn't have any side effects at all while on it so I wouldn't worry about that. Good luck!

Re: Provera
it def sounds like PCOS, specifically the sweating and the acne. when did you have bloodwork done? if it was early in your cycle then your hormone levels may have appeared normal even if they aren't.
it could just be residual weird cycles from coming off the pill.. but the sweating and acne are signs of high testosterone/androgens as is common in PCOS.
you can try provera and then see if you have a normal cycle but if you don't then you should prob get your hormone levels tested again.

Re: Provera
Thanks everyone...I really hope it's not PCOS as I've read alot about it on here and it doesn't sound pleasant! I actually have an appointment today with an endocrinologist...an appointment that I've waited months for!!! So hopefully she can answer some questions.
And yes the bloodwork my gyno took was done early in my cycle....I'm just so confused because I've ALWAYS been regular even before the pill and my obgyn also did an ultrasound of my ovaries and said everything looked fine...infact she called me "fertile myrtle"...so who knows?!

Re: Provera
I'm not much help because I haven't been on Provera, but I think I'll probably be put on it too. I came off the BCP in December after being on it for 10 years and I haven't gotten a period since December 3rd!
Like you, my blood work all came back normal. I did some research and found that sometimes your blood work can come back fine but PCOS can be found with an sonogram. I have an appointment with my OBGYN May 9th and I'm going to tell her I'd like to have a sono done, hopefully it will give me some answers! Maybe you could ask for the same?
I hope everything works out for you!

Re: Provera
My appointment with the endo went well and she did take some blood to check my androgens but told me that she doesn't think I have PCOS based on my blood work from my obgyn, the sonogram, and my symptoms. I woke up this morning and aunt flow arrived to my surprise...and I didn't even have to take provera! So maybe it is the case where my body is just trying to regulate after being on the pill. If anyone needs the name of a great endo just fm me.
