What are your dates? We'll be there in October, too.
So just do Alaska! Make it happen!
Right after Columbus Day.
maybe we'll overlap. We're Oct 13-20 at BLT. Doing the Halloween party on 10/16. Look for Mary P and Bert as a chmney sweep!
We shall be home before you arrive. How did you get Halloween party dates and tickets? My TA called Disney and they said dates wouldn't be released until May. I was hoping for either 10/9 or 10/10 for the party.

I went to Alaska with DH and we both loved it. I actually miss it and I didn't think I would like it. I don't really have a desire to go to Hawaii though. So I would pick Alaska!
Same here. DH & I went to Alaska together and LOVED it! We still talk about it often. Hawaii...we both have no desire to go at this point.

I'm a TA. Is yours a Disney Specialist?
If you're experienced with Disney you know what the dates are based on the calendar.
10/9 and 10/10 will not be party dates. Sorry! 10/8, 10/11 and 10/12 will be though.
She's right that the tickets are not released until May, but I can tell you the Halloween Party dates with 99% certainty.
ETA: other options are the 4th and the 5th. It's almost time to make your ADRs. You've gotta choose your Halloween Party date before doing that.

I looked at the calendar for the Halloween party and in years past it has been on Columbus Day, and then the Tuesday & Thursday after for two weeks, then more dates leading into Halloween. I thought I would be good since 10/9 is the day after Columbus Day. Are you 100% sure there will be no party on 10/9?

They can always change the calendar, but right now, according to the calendar, it does NOT look like there will be a party on 10/9.

Thanks Jennifer. Of course, the year I decide to go is the first time they're not planning the party for the day after Columbus Day. I looked at today's release of the October park hours and it appears that is the only Tuesday the entire month they are not having the event.

Yeah. I'm not sure why that is. Can you make it to one of the other days?

Re: Alaska or Hawaii
I have been to both and enjoyed both.
How old is your DC?
We took DS to Hawaii when he was 15 months old. It's a good trip with a little kid because there is plenty to do. Alaska, we did a cruise and I am not sure how much you would find to do with a little kid (depending on DC's age). It was absolutely beautiful, and I think romantic as well. Amazing if you love scenery.

Re: Alaska or Hawaii
I have been to both and I would pick Hawaii every single time.
I love the water. The water in Alaska is COLD in the summer (high 60s/very low 70s so not really swimming on the beach kind of weather for me). Also you need to be ok with a LOT of daylight. I had trouble adjusting to the fact that at 1 am it felt like 6 pm for daylight purposes.
The mountains are just enormous. Bigger than I could even imagine. They make the Rocky Mountains look like a child's playground.
I would go to Alaska if: you love mountains, white water rafting, native american art, and folksy down home people.
Hawaii - I love the sand, the water, climbing boulders, luaus, luxury, and the lush natural beauty. Wear a ton of sun screen. I burned very badly. The water is perfectly warm. The sand feels great under your toes. The views are outstanding. You really have to be there to see how lush everything is. I would take a helicopter ride to see everything from the sky.
I would go to Hawaii if: you love the water, relaxing, pineapple, lush beauty. You can also climb over large boulders, the people are so kind and generous, the food is amazing but $$$$.
