GD ladies- breakfast

Can you ladies with gestational diabetes let me know what you eat for breakfast. I haven't been to a nutritionist yet to get a diet/meal plan. My #'s after lunch and dinner are good, but the ones after breakfast are still high.
What do you have for breakfast?
Also, if you drink coffee, what do you put in it?
TIA

Re: GD ladies- breakfast

I usually have scrambled eggs, toast and a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. I sometimes use reg. sugar in my coffee and sometimes I use Spenda and when I test two hours later my number is usually under 90

Re: GD ladies- breakfast

never heard of that. the gold standard is fasting...2 hours after beginning to eat. so around 4 testing times a day.

i dont know anyone who wouldnt have a high reading only one hour after starting eating. eeks!

Oh man...maybe I heard the doc wrong or misunderstood. As soon as he said that I had GD I panicked and sort of zoned out Chat Icon
Well, I go back tomorrow so I guess I'll find out.

Re: GD ladies- breakfast

My dr and nutritionist said the golden numbers were to be below 140 after 1 hour and 120 after 2 hours.

I had to monitor mine a little closely with one pregnancy since I used to have drastic drops in my blood sugar and sometimes had to keep eating certain things to maintain the correct levels. But that was not a normal case.

But to answer your original question, usually for breakfast i would have an egg and half of a whole wheat bagel, or half a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter.
for the most part it was some sort of variation on an egg or omlet, since the more protein and less carbs the better.

Re: GD ladies- breakfast

Fro all post-meals, I have to test 1 hour after my first bite (under 140).

For breakfast, I usually do a scrambled egg with some type of protein (cheese, sausage, ham, veggies), and 1 slice of wheat toast. It keeps me in around 100-110. It's usually around 12-15g of carbs.

Never was a breakfast eater beforehand so this works well for me.

Re: GD ladies- breakfast

Thanks ladies- this a.m. I had peanut butter on whole wheat, a coffee with ½ sugar and one of those small creamer tubs and my sugar came back 131 after an hour. Waaaaay less than it was those couple of days.
I’m def going to try eggs too.
Thanks again.
