For girls that have insurance with a deductible

I used to have great insurance. I always paid a co-pay (only $20) and that covered the appointments and ultrasounds and blood work and EVERYTHING. I never had to worry about bills, I just paid my $20 upfront.

Well, this year, we got crappy health insurance and I had a deductible. ($1,000 out of pocket up front). Once that is met then they will cover the bills for 90% of it, and I have to cover the other 10%.

My questions are these- is this normal in terms or insurance with a deductible? Are blood work and ultrasounds still billed separate like they were for the deductible? Do they ever get covered like when I had a co-pay before? How much have your visits to the ob/gyn for this pregnancy has it been costing you?

For 3 visits to the ob/gyn and 1 visit to my regular physician, I have already spent $1,000! On my old insurance, this would have only cost me $80!

I think I have similar insurance (it's a mid-tier plan from UHC). I have only paid a co-pay once at my OB office, but I just got a bill for $1200 from my NT scan and I think I have to pay up to the 1k deductible. It's on my list of things to investigate this weekend. FUN!

Ours changed this year also, we already paid $1000 out of pocet and we wre told that's it , everythung else is covered, my OB is covered and no copay at all so far. The only thing we will have to pay now is hospital stay, I think it's $500 . I hate this, we never had to do this before and we have had this plan for years. But I hear most plans are changing to do the same now.

We have a $3000 deductible then pay $0 out of pocket once we reach it.

When DD was born, the entire hospital stay cost me $2400 for both of us. So we didn't even reach our deductible. It was kinda surprising!

My OB's office charges up front the entire fee for the entire year.

This year, we still had a few hundred dollars left to make of our deductible when I went for my first appointment. I just got the bill for my u/s and first meeting with the doctor. It's for just over $200. We've since reached our deductible so that's it until 12/1.

We pay a lot less per month because of our high deductible, but with 3 of us all on the same insurance, we figured out that it's more worth it to have the high deductible then pay nothing. We had the option of the $1k deductible then co-pays but figured out this was more economical for us.

As far as co-pays go, if you get the services done at the same place, there shouldn't be separate co-pays as far as my understanding goes. If you go somewhere separate for lab work, though, then there could be, although I've never heard of a co-pay for bloodwork. Could you call your insurance company and ask them how you can maximize your money as far as taking care of all your health needs without spending as much? They may be able to help you.

Last Pregnancy we had Aetna. We had a 1,500 dollar co-pay per person on the plan for (the hospital), 1,500 per person for (lab work), and than 50 dollar co-pay for each visit and if I have a sono its an additional 50. And than I have co-insurance which I don't even know how that works.

For my dd my hospital stay, bill to the anthesologist, bill to my ob, and peditrician was 5,500 out of my pocket.

This time I have Cigna and its so much better. I only have a 200 co-pay person and they pay 90% of the hospital after my co-pay.

mine is $3,000 per period deductible, $6,000 aggregate family deductible.

They had another plan that would have a $1,500 deductible then they pay 90% amount, but the aggregate was still the same $6,000 and the plan cost an extra thousand so I just stuck to the pure deductible........

when ds was born I had a different plan with no copay for maternity - there was a billing mixup on him and when I saw the explanation of benefits the hospital bill totaled $41,000 between his NICU 10 days and my vag. labor.

Oh My!!! I will NEVER complain about my insurance coverage again, I don't have a deductible. I had to pay $20 for my initial prenatal appointment then I don't have to pay anything for the entire rest of the pregnancy including delivery.
