Should I see a RE?
my bloodwork came back fine, sonogram came back fine, just 1 small cyst. i am shocked, thought for sure it was PCOS...so did my doctor.
my obgyn gave me a RX for provera and clomid, and then bloodwork later in my cycle to see if i ovulated.
is this a good place to begin to see if it actually works or should i go straight to a RE? i know some people have said not to go to your obgyn to try to get pregnant, but im not sure at what point to actually go to a RE since all my tests came back fine
and its only been 6 months, so its fairly early. but we have been every other day for each cycle so thats why we dont think im ovulating.

Re: Should I see a RE?
IMO i would still go to an RE. they generally do more extensive testing than OBs. did your OB do fasting insulin to check for PCOS? did they do the bloodwork on CD3?
also i wouldnt do clomid unmonitored. checking after the fact isn't enough information IMO. REs do constant monitoring to make sure you are responding to the meds. if you aren't they can change the game plan so you don't waste a whole cycle. RE monitoring will also tell you if you have 1 good follie, multiple follies, etc.. so you gain knowledge on how you respond to each med.

Re: Should I see a RE?
That's exactly what I did in the beginning, my obgyn put me on clomid and checked to see if I ovulated. Then since I didn't with the clomid, he suggested I move on to a RE. My RE praised my obgyn and said they did everything right and didn't waste time in getting me to the right place.

ITA! i did 3 cycles of clomid with my obgyn before going to a RE and after seeing how much they monitor you i feel like i wasted 3 cycles with my ob. Look at it like this; ob's job is to give you care after a pregnancy and give gyn care to you in general. A RE's job is to get you pregnant, so they will be more aggressive than an obgyn.

i think im going to try this. i am going to give my obgyn one cycle just to see what happens. then im going to go to a RE if the first time doesnt work.
to the other poster, i didnt do an insulin test with fasting....im going to ask about that at my next appt. thank you for the info.

This. DH should have a SA.
Also, I'd go right to the RE. IMO, there's no reason to waste time with an Ob/Gyn.

I was going to ask the same. Personally, I'd get his SA back before I started with an RE. For me, we're dealing strictly with male factor and DH had many months of treatment before I had to think about seeing an RE.
But, I'd agree with the other posters that I wouldn't do a clomid cycle with your gyno. I'd see an RE before starting any meds.

Re: Should I see a RE?
If you are taking clomid you should be monitored for cysts and your lining.

Re: Should I see a RE?
If your going to take clomid go see an RE...you need to be monitored on it...it can cause cysts & thin lining...I had both...the RE will also perform all the tests that you need to rule out other things...I wasted 2 months with my gyn and I regret not going to an RE immediately

Re: Should I see a RE?
i would seriosuly reccoment going to see an RE for all the wonderful reasons listed above. I would also have DH take a SA to rule out male factor problems

we already had a child together a couple years ago, we got pregnant right away the first time around. should he still be tested? or is it safe to assume that his swimmers are fine since we already conceived once?

Re: Should I see a RE?
also, i cant thank all of you enough for all the information. i am def. going to see a RE for the next round.
but how do i bring it up to my obgyn? i really like them but dont want to insult them by saying i prefer to see a specialist? i HATE any kind of confrontational situation like that, im horrible at them.
have any of you told your obgyn that you wanted to see a specialist? did they agree or try to get you to stay with them?
or should i just make an appt. with a RE directly? and not tell my obgyn that im going to a specialist?
the more research i do, i cant believe that obgyn's can give out these meds the way they do, there are some pretty scary things that can happen if you are not monitored!!

Re: Should I see a RE?
If you want to try a few more months on your own you could but if you are going to start fertility medications I would be more comfortable working and being monitored by an re. Insurance converge would also factor into my decision. If you have the benefits go for it now!!
I also want to add that all of my tests came back fine and I still am having fertility issues. Many fertility issues are considered unexplained so that wouldn't stop me from seeing and re

He would still have to be tested again.

Re: Should I see a RE?
I started seeing a RE at the 6 month mark. I was 32 years old at the time and did not want to waste any more time with my OB.
