Re: has anyone cruised the islands in sept-nov?
We've cruised in October and December- never any issues there! The weather was a little cooler than the norm, but even still it was great vacation weather. The waters were never rough or anything like that. We've only left from Florida during those times though.

I think it really depends on where you are going, and luck. Sept-Nov is hurricane season, so I think that's why a lot of people would be reluctant to cruise. In general Sept-Nov is low season for most vacations. Kids are in school, and it's not cold enough for snow birds.

Re: has anyone cruised the islands in sept-nov?
I have cruised twice in October & had great weather & calm seas. And it was really hot in Barbados!
The first time was starting 10/10 & the other was about a week before.
It depends where you go- we left from San Juan both times- DH did a lot of research the first time on weather--the islands we were going to ( southern & Eastern Carribean) were pretty much out of danger by that time of year, and there were al ot of hurricanes that yaer, but in August & September, and further west.
Aruba is pretty much always good--it has a more desert like climate.
October was fine for us, but November is probably even safer.

I have.
We sailed out of Florida Sept. 2004 - in between hurricanes.
It was nerve wracking to watch the weather but it worked out fine.
You're rolling the dice but the weather can be great.
The later the better (the less of a risk.)

Re: has anyone cruised the islands in sept-nov?
We cruised the beginning of Sept a few years ago and missed one island because of a hurricane going through. Rough seas but we went on 2 cruises after that so it didn't bother us that much---
We did take another cruise in early October and no hurricanes around at all. No rough seas either.

Re: has anyone cruised the islands in sept-nov?
We have sailed in August. Sept to Nov is hurricane season. It can be great or it can be white knuckle time if there are any storms out there. As far as how rough it gets. It really depends.
We sailed out of NY the day after Irene in August to Bermuda and had VERY smooth waters. Coming back there were no storms but the water was actually pretty rough.
You can get good deals because kids are in school and it is hurricane season but it IS a roll of the dice. I would make sure to get trip insurance that covers you for cancel for any reason or that will cover you for a hurricane. Check out insuremytrip.com - you can compare policies over there - but it is important to get something good that will cover you if something happens - most lesser plans WON"T.

Actually hurricane season starts June 1st.
Hurricane Season Dates Hurricane season in the Atlantic begins June 1st and ends November 30th. The Eastern Pacific hurricane season begins May 15th and also ends November 30th.

Re: has anyone cruised the islands in sept-nov?
We've cruised every Thanksgiving for the last 8 years or so and have never once had a problem with rain or hurricanes. Eastern Caribbean usually, sometimes Western.
Definitely invest in vacation insurance and plan to arrive at the port the day before your cruise. Always good advice but especially during hurricane season.

Re: has anyone cruised the islands in sept-nov?
I never had a problem in terms of hurricaines and weather related problems. I had a HUGE problem with sea skickness leaving out of NY in Oct. The water was super rough and the boat was going all the way up and all the way down...I get nauseas thinking about it. Day 2 was much better.

I've gone in September 2x, December 1x.
Weather was perfect. It's a little nerve wracking checking the weather reports for hurricanes but haven't had any issues and wouldn't hesitate to book another one during that those months.

We cruise almost every November and so far it's been without issue. The water temperature has been fine. It has rained sometimes for the most I guess 20-30 min at a clip.

I've cruised in October several times and for the most part had good experiences. A few nights of rough seas, but that's to be expected during hurricaine season.

Yes it does start in June - but most years Aug and sept can be the worst of it. There aren't as many in June or July most years. The reason I didn't mention June or July because she was asking about Sept-Nov specifically.

True, I agree. I just always knew it started in June as we were in FL one year and they were preparing for the season Memorial Day. That is why the prices are lower too those months.
