Spirit airlines?

Has anyone flown Spirit? Are the planes really small compared to jet blue? I've never flown them but the flight is $100 cheaper one way, so contemplating it.

If the flight is longer than 2-3 hours, don't do it! From my experience, their flights are always delayed and there is ZERO leg room. I'm 5'4'' and average sized and it was SO uncomfortable! I can't imagine how a taller man would feel in those seats. I will never fly Spirit again unless it was a super short flight.

Re: Spirit airlines?

Thanks for the reply....definitely NOT doing it then! I need
to be decently comfy even though it's only a 2.5 hour flight. The drive is an hour further so not worth it.

Re: Spirit airlines?

When my friend lived in Michigan a few years back, I always flew Spirit to go visit her. I was perfectly comfortable and never had any issues. Granted the flight was only an hour and 10 mins, but I didn't experience anything that I haven't with any other airline.

Re: Spirit airlines?

I flew Spirit airlines last year out to Arizona. I was actually pleasantly surprised with them considering I had never heard of them before. I had no issues with room space and neither did my dad who's 6'2 with a decent belly lol. I would fly on them again without a second thought.

Re: Spirit airlines?

Re: Spirit airlines?

I flew spirit once, years ago and just as the plan revved up to start down the runway, a fire broke out in the engines. People were screaming and running up the aisle. Ive never been so terrified in my entire life, I hate flying and this happened to be the one time i flew by myself. I guess this could have happened on any airline (apparently when they refueled the plan they overdid it) but I am permanently scarred.

Re: Spirit airlines?

We will be flying Spirit after this month. They are the only ones who fly direct into Myrtle Beachabd we weren't going to deal witha connecting flight with two kds.

i am forced to fly them b/c they are the only airline that goes to Myrtle Beach non stop ( i go every year). its not super comfy but not terrible either (ive been on smaller planes!) the only thing that sucks is that they charge you for basically everything including carry on luggage.

Re: Spirit airlines?

I flew with them once to California and they were awful. The flight was really delayed and the flight attendents were rude and useless. I asked what would happen if we missed the connecting flight and their attitude was sort of like "sorry, I guess you are SOL". They wouldn't even make an announcement asking those who were not catching a connecting flight to wait to de-plane, so that those of us that had to catch a flight could get off first (something that every other airline I have travelled has done when there is a delay).

Never again.

Re: Spirit airlines?

I will NEVER fly Spirit again.

We booked them for our most recent trip to Atlantis Bahamas b/c they were the only ones with a direct flight. It meant driving to Myrtle Beach airport which is a little over an hr away, as opposed to flying out of ILM which is 15 min but it was worth it since we'd have a direct flight and an extra few hrs in the bahamas on both our arrival and departure days.

MONTHS in advance, we call the airlines to add a seat for my neice and we find out our flights have been switched and we now have a 5 HOUR layover there and a 4 HOUR layover home. They never notified us, we only found out b/c we called about the added seat. When we asked to speak to manager to find out why, they claimed "technical difficulties!" How the fluck do they have technical difficulties months in advance? They did nothing to reimburse us and it cost us HOURS of time in Atlantis. Both our departure and arrival days were cut in half. They're customer service SUCKS HAIRY BALLS!!!

Plus they charge an arm and a leg for luggage, even carry ons!

NEVER AGAIN- not worth the few dollars saved!!!

Re: Spirit airlines?

I fly them to Myrtle Beach each year like pps since they are the only airline that offers multiple flights a day.

The planes are the same size as Jet Blue but, the seats are very close together - I flew with DS as a lap child at 17 months and it was very tight (and he's on the short side, as am I).

They nickel and dime you for everything - to choose your seat, if you want a carry on in the overhead, etc. They also charge you to purchase beverages on board.

So although it may seem like it's $100 less - after all of the additional fees, it may end up being a lot closer than you think.
