Re: Spirit Airlines?
My parents use them a lot when they go to Florida to visit their parents. Usually b/c it's last minute. they never have an issue with them and it's so cheap only problem is they have to fly out of AC
My sister, BIL and their 5 kids (yes, 5!) went to Disney on them. It was cheap and then when they got their they said they can't seat them together and if $$. My BIL said... no problem, scatter the kids around and see how it goes Then they decided to sit them together no extra charge

Re: Spirit Airlines?
We fly them and have never had a problem. They are the cheapest flight from NY to Myrtle Beach, where my parents live. My parents also fly up to us on Spirit probably 4-5 times a year without a problem.
Keep in mind---while the flight is cheap, you will have to pay to select seats & for luggage. Unfortunately, it can add up quickly.

$28 per flight per bag..thats an extra $100 for two bags..you can't even bring a carry on its $30 per flight.

Re: Spirit Airlines?
I fly them all the time to Myrtle Beach (like pp said they have the cheapest and largest selection of flights).
The price you are getting does not include:
Luggage (which is the same for most airlines other than JetBlue or Southwest) Carry on for overhead compartment (one under the seat is complimentary) Seat choice (the seats at the front of the plane cost more - the cheapest seat choice is $8 each way)

I know...ridiculous You can have a carry on but it must fit under the seat so it needs to be the size of a shoebox basically. The one shoebox sized bag would be free of charge---they are so generous! If you have to put a bag in the overhead....$30.

Re: Spirit Airlines?
I took Spirit once from Florida. Never again. I thought the plane was going to fall apart the way it was shaking. The panels inside the plane (like on the walls) would shake and just the overall appearance of the plane made me feel unsafe. Maintenance didn't seem to be a priority.
Keep looking for flights. We flew to FL in March and found a $99 flight on Southwest and flights for $89 and $112 on Delta.
ETA: Loved the Southwest flight, especially the fact that luggage is free. We sat together, had like 5 carry-ons, a car seat and our DS, gate checked the stroller, all with no problem.

Re: Spirit Airlines?
I didn't have kids at the time, but I used to fly Spirit all the time to visit my best friend when she lived in Michigan several years ago. Always cheap, never a problem. Their planes have the same safety and quality requirements as any other airline. Maybe a little more "no frills" than others (no TV, etc.) but gets the job done.

See - I found the Spirit planes to be in better shape than some of the other airlines I've flown recently (Delta, American)...

I agree with you and Southwest just had problems with their planes.

Re: Spirit Airlines?
Actually, you get a personal item plus a diaper bag at no charge if you are travelling with an infant/toddler.
I recently flew without DH to Myrtle Beach and had a stroller I gate checked (free), my pocketbook, Ann's backpack and a diaper backpack. Ann is under two but I did buy her a seat since it was just the two of us and thought I would need the extra space to manage anything that came up.
She actually sat in her seat on the way down with the CARES restraint (although it was way too big and in no one can I believe safe ... and none of the in-flight staff even checked it) and on my lap on the way home (we had been delayed at MYR for several hours).
My only Spirit issue has always been, they are not priority into LGA so whenever there are issues/delays up here, Spirit almost always gets immediately held.

Re: Spirit Airlines?
I have not flown then in 7 years (last time we flew with them it was honeymoon time - we flew once to Orlando and once to Ft Lauderdale about 3 months later. Honestly they are no frills, but they were fine for us. At the time you could pay at check in for an upgrade to their plus seats which were like business class in size. They had some special where it was like $40 round trip total - so we did it. The only thing that I found annoying was that they let me bring a garment bag onto the plane going down to our cruise - but coming home they told me I MUST check it b.c it was too big even though it fit in their carry on sample carrier. They are NO frills - but honestly isn't southwest too? When we flew with them you could pick seats which is a big plus. I would fly them again if the price was right.
I think they only allow one carry on now unless you have the higher level seats - otherwise you pay for I think additional carry ons and any checked bags - so make sure you take that into account when you compare them with other lines.
