homeowners near water
can you rec who you use for homeowners insurance? We are looking to buy a home and it is near the water in a flood zone but not on the water. USAA (our current company) doesn't cover that area.

We are closse to the water and don't need flood insurance but we do need hurricane insurance. We had great difficulty finding a carrier and eventually got coverage with Mercury Insurance through an agent.

We live in Long Beach in a flood zone and we have Allstate for our homeowners and flood. We have had them for 8 years.

We use Mercury also. We are close to water (2 blocks) but don't need flood insurance. It was hard to find someone, many companies don't want to insure homes near water on the South Shore.

i live about 3/4 a mile a way from the water and even there, some places gave us trouble getting insurance (and i wasnt looking for flood insurance either- because like you, it was mandatory) i finally contacted a local Statefarm in Lindenhurst...Tony Albano State Farm and they insured us, no problem. I did have a problem though when we were looking 2-3 blocks from the water. I couldnt find anyone to give flood insurance and the company I finally got, it was so much money, I couldnt afford it.

Because we are in a very high risk flood area we needed flood insurance to close. The bank would not give us a mortgage without it. We have Allstate.

we have tower risk management, one of the only insurance companies that would insure us at the time, and we found them through alstate.

We went to State Farm after Allstate sharply increased their rates on our 'bundle' of auto & home policies.

We moved near the water about 1.5 years ago - and State Farm wouldn't cover us there. We went with Utica - through an insurance brokerage. Very reasonable.
Let me know if you want the broker's name.

New York Property? No one would insure us except them, we got our policy with them through State Farm.

Other carriers other than NYP will write on the water. Ocean Harbor, Narr Bay, some others write within a mile depending on where you are located

We used Allstate.
Originally State Farm was our 1st choice but they refused to insure us with our big dog.
