Hospital Question

Hi...I am current TTC and trying to find a new obgyn. I either want to find an ob who delivers at stony brook and st.. charles. I know both are great hospitals. Can anyone share the difference between the 2. I know stony brook lets your dh stay the night. Thanks so much!!!

Re: Hospital Question

I haven't delivered at either but I will be delivering DS#2 at Stony Brook next month. I was at Good Sam with DS#1. All the rooms at Stony Brook are private, they just updated the whole maternity ward at the end of last year. When I was at Good Sam the food was EH and they gave you a menu the night before and you can choose from one of two choices for each of the three meals the next day. My sister delivered at Stony Brook in Jan 2011 and said that there is a huge menu and you can choose anything you want off of it at any time of the day and they had Boar's Head sandwiches, etc. She said the food was great.
You also get your own bathroom in your room, not having to share with anyone. And most important, just in case anything happens, they have a top notch NICU.

Stony Brook is one of my top picks for all these reasons.

Re: Hospital Question

Delivering at Stony Brook this time. I delivered DS at St. Catherines.

I'm not to sure about St. Charles, but I'm pretty sure it is similar to St. Catherines. Pretty sure you have to share a room. Not sure about the bathrooms. I know at St. Catherines you had a bathroom in the room, but it was only a sink and toliet and you share it with your roomate. The shower was in the hallway.

Stony Brook is so nice!! Private rooms, private big bathrooms with showers. So happy to have this. I hated sharing a bathroom. It skeeved me out. Plus, I hated that St. Catherines bathrooms where to small for me to fit baby's hospital bed in with me. I had times I had to use the bathroom right away and I had no one with me. Stony Brook bathrooms are made big enough to bring bed in if you have to. Plus Labor and delivery is also brand new.

I know St. Catherines actually is redoing their maternity ward right now. They will have private rooms, which is great.

I however can't recommend a doctor. I switched at 24 weeks and think the new place is just okay. Though alot of girls on here love the practice I currently go to. I miss my old practice I went to. I was just set on deliveing at Stony Brook that is why I switched. I will be switching back after DS is born.

Re: Hospital Question

Thanks so much! my first choice is Stony Brook, however, I'm not sure what ob to pick. I heard that dr. ninia is great but I think that he only delivers at st. charles. I heard dr. porte was great too. I haven't met with any of these doctors yet. I just know that i want to switch from my current office bc it soooo big. If anyone is using either of these doctors please let me know how you like them.

:) Thank you again!

Re: Hospital Question

I had a c-section in Stony Brook and it was a great hospital. Some of the staff in the NICU was not very kind to me but the nurses in maternity were amazing. The food was great and the private rooms were really nice.

I went to Dr. O'Keefe at GYN/OB Stony Brook. He was amazing.
